Cumberland, Ontario (city)

The City of Cumberland was a short lived incorporated city in eastern Ontario, Canada that existed from 1999 to 2001. From 1800 until 1999 the area was incorporated as the Township of Cumberland. In 2001, it was amalgamated with the city of Ottawa. In the 2001 census the area had a population of 52,430.

According to the Canada 2001 Census:

The community of Cumberland was first settled in 1801. The township, community and city took their name from Ernest Augustus I of Hanover, Duke of Cumberland from 1799 to 1837.
