User:Cuivienen/WikiProject Featured Articles

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This was a proposal to create WikiProject Featured Articles, a WikiProject devoted to maintaining current featured articles. Due to an apparent lack of interest, the proposal is currently mothballed.

[edit] Background

There are currently nearly 1,000 featured articles, yet there is no cohesive method of maintaining their integrity. Additionally, as featured article standards have improved, many featured articles promoted long ago have fallen below current standards.

The goal of a WikiProject focusing on featured articles is to improve all current featured articles to featured standard and to maintain articles at featured standard even as featured standard changes. Important reading includes Wikipedia:What is a featured article?

[edit] Aims

The aims will be to:

  • Encourage editors to focus on improving articles that were once considered the pinnacle of Wikipedia.
  • Prevent slow degradation of our highest-quality articles.
  • Standardise formats within current featured articles on similar topics working with relevant WikiProjects
  • Maintain Portal:Featured content

Other possible aims include:

  • Translating featured articles on other-language Wikipedias into English and helping those articles to reach featured standard.
  • Ensure that all languages have some rudimentary form of an article that is featured on any Wikipedia.

[edit] Membership

Membership is open to any registered user of the English Wikipedia. If you are interested, please be sure to voice your support at this page! Thanks.

If not, thank you for reading this proposal.
