"Cruel Like Kross" is an episode of the series Ōban Star-Racers.

Molly's dream has been shattered by the revelation of the Ultimate Prize's true nature. A friend's shocking, true identity only adds to her confusion. With her goal gone, she sees no point in finishing the race. However, the realization of what it would mean if the Crogs gained the Ultimate Prize spurs her to set out for the final race -- a race that could decide the fate of the galaxy.

[edit] Plot

It begins with the Avatar addressing the pilots at the pool, telling them not to worry about Sul and the Earth Team and that the end is coming. The Earth Team then shows up, much to Aikka's delight, and demands to know what the Ultimate Prize is. Molly tells him the Creators said it won't grant their wishes. The Avatar gets mad and shoots lightning and high winds but now the other pilots want to know as well. The Avatar disappears saying the creators are nothing but ghosts. Satis appears on the ground behind them saying he's too old for 'these moments of majesty'.

Molly asks if he is the Avatar and he says yes. He explains the Avatar must be a creature of emmence strength and determination. Aikka questions if he means the winner of Oban and Satis nods, saying like he was before, 10,000 years before. Kross demands to know why he lied to them, and Satis answers saying 'So that your motivations would not be tainted by your lust for power and conquest.' He then taps his staff on the ground and floats in the air, he tells them that the position of Avatar is one to be honored and that the race will go ahead regardless of who drops out and who stays in. They had till noon to decide.

As the others leave Molly stays behind and asks Satis if the Avatar can bring back the Dead; Muir is listening from near by. Satis explains that though the Avatar has many powers, even he cannot tamper with the "Kingdom of the Dead". Molly nods saying that's what she was afraid of and leaves with Jordan back to the Earth Module. They are greeted by Stan and Koji who are excited to see them but are confused when Molly walks past. Don asks what's wrong and she replies 'everything'.

Meanwhile, Kross addresses the Crogs council who are arguing and tells them that he will be the Avatar and the new Crog leader. Furteur is picking out "regal" clothes to wear, Ning is reminding Skun that their people are scattered and that Skun would be best to bring their people back even though she doesn't want to leave her sister. Muir sits on top of the orb containing his mate's body, and O is sitting in his module.

Molly sits on the wall as Jordan comes up to talk to her. Don listens from his room. He says he thinks she'll be a good Avatar but she doesn't think so. Jordan asks what she would have wished for. She tells him of her mom dying and she would have wished her back to life. She says that since she can't do that, she has no reason to race. Aikka watches the Earth Module when his fencing teacher comes up behind him and says he's wasting his time and that she won't save their people. Aikka asks who will, if he becomes Avatar, his kingdom has no heir and will crumble. But if the Crogs win, his parents will be free but they would all be slaves. The teacher says there is no other option. Aikka says 'Not unless someone else wins the Ultimate Prize; someone with a heart that pure.'

At noon, everyone is there except Muir who dropped out. One by one they tell their decisions to stay except Molly who says she's out. She leaves and Kross tells the others they should do the same. Aikka runs after her, telling her that she can't do this. They all had to stand together against the Crogs. Molly say he switches sides too easily and that is was no longer her fight. Kross reprimands him for running after his 'princess' and warns Aikka that he has his parents.

Back in the pit, Stan and Koji are trying to fix the Arrow and Molly is in her room remembering what Aikka said. She remembers stealing the Arrow II and all the races they went through and starts pacing telling herself she can't race but ends up rallying to race. Jordan is watching Stan and Koji finish the repairs when Molly comes out. He says in a way their not racing, he wouldn't want to fly in the 'hunk of junk anyway'. Stan's eyelid twitches and Koji scowls but Molly says it's beautiful and that they need to hurry up, they were late. As they get in, Jordan calls her 'Miss Avatar'. Don sees them and tells her that she doesn't have to do this; they can go home and be a family again. Molly tells him she's racing, because she has to stop the Crogs. The light goes up and the Arrow goes down.

In his cage, Canaletto watches and declares "Revenge is mine!" The view then pulls out from him to pass through the surrounding wall to reveal that his prison is in the bottom of the Avatar's temple.
