The article is not named correctly: the months themselves aren't Croatian, their names are.

The meaning column should be referenced. If I remember correctly, Stjepan Babić says that the etymology of "veljača" is unclear. He found an example such as "mačke se veljaju" (meaning "mačke se pare"), pointing to the meaning of "veljača" as "mjesec kada se mačke pare", but he finds it unconvincing and postulates that the verb was derived from the name of the month, not vice versa. Feel free to make any changes. The article is far from perfect. There's no doubt in my mind that there should be an article about this (Croatian naming of months is not exactly like any other Slavic month naming and distinguishes us from both Bosniaks and Serbs), but I'm not sure what form this article should take. I've left it in its simplest form (a table) and tried to fit in everything as best as possible. As you point out, it's really not that simple. You probably know more about this than me, so go ahead and make whatever changes you'd like, including renaming. (Living in Canada, I simply don't have the resources to look this stuff up). "Month names in Croatian" would probably be a more accurate title.

PS.Do you have any info about the history of the calendar in Croatian names vs. Hungarian, Italian, Yugoslav, etc. and its general evolution? Cheers --Thewanderer 02:42, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

I think that the article is essentially fine; my remarks were for reference only. You're correct, it is really not simple, but the subject is very interesting from a linguistic point of view.

I would use the Babić's book to provide references and perhaps expand on the etymology, but unfortunately I don't have it on hand (and I'm not even sure which one it was). I'll think about the article name...
