[edit] Summary

The picture provided was not a sidewinder, but a prairie rattlesnake, Crotalus viridis. I wrote a dissertation on rattlesnakes, with particular focus on sidewinders, so I am sure about this one. The photo was taken by me, Dr. Randall Reiserer, at Bouse Dunes, Arizona in 1995. The specimen is now in the collection of the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, University of California, Berkeley.
