[edit] Plot summary

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Major Kira and Dr. Bashir are thrown into an alternate universe while trying to go through the Wormhole. When they return to Deep Space Nine they find a very different station. Humans are called "Terrans" and are used as slaves. The station is run by Kira's powerful, manipulative, and flirtatious Mirror Universe counterpart, the Intendant. The Terrans are forced to labor by an alternate Odo, a cruel slavemaster.

Bashir is caught and put into the ore-processing labor force, and Kira is taken by an intrigued Intendant. The latter tells Kira that in this universe, the Klingons and Cardassians have formed a dual empire and conquered the Terrans.

Kira and Bashir manage to seek out the Mirror counterparts of several DS9 crew members, including O'Brien and Sisko. Mirror Garak is a close ally of Intendant Kira, but reveals that he is planning to kill her and take over, and offers to help Kira and Bashir escape so they can go home to their own universe. Before he can make his move, Bashir is captured in an escape attempt and brought before the Intendant for punishment. O'Brien and Sisko decide the time is right to rise up against Intendant Kira. A crowd of angry oppressed Terrans gathers, and Kira and Bashir make a run for home. They leave the Mirror Universe as it is on the verge of a clash between the Terrans and their overlords, until next time.
