Cromarty Rose

The M.V. Cromarty Rose is the smallest car ferry in the UK.


The Cromarty Rose was built in 1987 in Ardrossan, Scotland for Seaboard Marine (Nigg) Ltd who operated the Cromarty-Nigg service until 2001. After a tendering process, the contract passed to the Cromarty Ferry Company, who purchased the Cromarty Rose from her previous owners. The ferry runs every half hour between the end of May to the end of October, and carries 50 passengers and 2 cars.

Running from the end of May 2006 to the end of October including Sundays. Operates from 8:00 am to 6:15 pm, and until 7:15 pm in July and August.

The ferry leaves Cromarty on the hour and half-hour, and leaves Nigg at quarter to and quarter past the hour.

In 2006 prices the prices were:

  • £6 for car & driver.
  • £2.50 per passenger.
  • £4 for motorbike and rider.
  • OAPs and children half price.
  • Children under 5 are free.


Evening cruises will be run on Wednesdays and Fridays in July and August. Duration will be one and a half hours leaving Cromarty at 19:30 and Nigg at 19:15. Refreshments available on board. These cruises must be pre-booked using the telephone numbers above. Price - £10 per person, half-price concessions.

Cruises at other times can be arranged for larger parties if required.
