Croatina

Croatina is a red wine grape that is grown in northwestern Italy around the comune of Pavia. It is the main grape behind the DOC wine Bonarda dell'Oltrepò Pavese. Croatina is often blended with Barbera, like in the Emilia-Romagna wine Gutturnio. Despite the similarities of their synonyms, Croatina is not related to the Piedmont grape Bonarda Piemontese. [1] It's worth noting that Argentinian Bonarda is thought to be Californian Charbono, rather than Croatina.

Croatina has similar characteristics to the Dolcetto grape in that it tends to produce fruity, deeply colored wines that are very tannic. The wines tend to benefit from bottle ageing. [1]
