Crni Put

Crni Put (Black Route) is a neighborhood of Niš, Serbia. It is in Niš municipality of Palilula.

Crni Put is in the central-west parts of Niš. It is flat and bordered on the west by Roma neighborhood of Jewish Cemetery, on the south by neighborhood of Staro Groblje, on the east by Industrial Zone, on the north by Nisava river.

Crni Put is one of the neighborhoods in Nis built mostly after 1878. During World War II this neighborhood was heavily bombed, first 1941 by Nazi Germany, than 1944 by the Allies. During Operation Allied Force 1999 the neighborhood was again heavily bombed.

[edit] Characteristics

The neighborhood is partly industrial, partly residential, and partly commercial. After WWII the city government decide to reserve the area of this neighborhood for industry and ban construction of any residential buildings. After the coalition of democratic opposition won the local elections in Niš in 1996, the new city government 1997 revise that decision, partly authorize the construction of residential buildings and dislocate the open merchandise markets in to this neighborhood.

There is a plan of transformation of this neighborhood in to city commercial zone.
