[edit] Plot synopsis
Although the usual disclaimer appears about the show being fictional, it is clearly inspired by the case of Jeffrey Dahmer, as it involves a serial killer who eats portions of his victims, shows apparent remorse for his actions, and is eventually beaten to death by a fellow inmate, in the prison's laundry room. In this case, the victims are young women.
A twist to the story is the empathy demonstrated by Detective Goren for the killer, a painfully shy man who does not understand his own murderous urges. Displaying unusual emotion, Goren passionately urges the Assistant District Attorney to seek life in prison rather than the death penalty. The ADA disagrees, but when Goren coaxes the confession, the ADA deals. When the news of the beating death arrives, Goren's partner Detective Eames sarcastically remarks, in the general direction of the ADA, "It looks like everyone got what they wanted."
