[edit] License tagging for Image:71p1010084.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:71p1010084.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 02:04, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Expounding on Lansingite"

Following the 1st of the Five Pillars of Wikipedia, I believe people being called "Lansingites" is a matter of opinion and is indiscriminate trivia. --Lugnut215 21:00, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] hollow threats

first off, i gave emporis as my source. i don't give in to hallow threats, so leave me alone. I have a life outside of the internet. go ahead and delete all you want if that gets you off. i just hope that doesn't make you look too immature. besides, you never specified how you want me to re-write them. so go and nominate everything for deletion, and i'll counter with a speedy keep for every single one RaccoonFoxTalkStalk 02:49, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deleted page "Hotel Pontchartrain (2nd nomination)"

A page you created, or image you uploaded, Hotel Pontchartrain (2nd nomination), has been deleted in accordance with our deletion policy. In particular, it meets the one or more criteria for speedy deletion; the relevant criterion is:

No content whatsoever. Any article consisting only of links elsewhere (including hyperlinks, category tags and "see also" sections), a rephrasing of the title, and/or attempts to correspond with the person or group named by its title.

Wikipedia has certain standards for inclusion that all articles must meet. Certain types of article must establish the notability of their subject by asserting its importance or significance. Additionally, since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, content inappropriate for an encyclopedia, or content that would be more suited to somewhere else (such as a directory or social networking website) is not acceptable. See What Wikipedia is not for the relevant policy.

You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable notability guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content; it will be deleted again and may be protected from re-creation. [edit] Re: Deleting Pages

Hello,
You recently deleted my nomination for the Hotel Pontchartrain in Detroit. Now, I've been here for quite some time, but I find this process a bit overwhelming, and I'm unable where I've made my mistake in nominating the page for deletion? I've read the deletion pages, but can't figure out how to get the reason to show for why I nominated a page for deletion. The fact is many people have expressed interest in ridding us of the ridiculous skyscraper pages for Detroit, of which he makes pages for the smallest and most insignificant of Detroit high-rises. Help! --Criticalthinker 08:39, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi, apologies for the confusion; I should have explained more thoroughly. It looks like you've figured it out now, anyway. What happened was you created a page at Hotel Pontchartrain (2nd nomination) – since this doesn't start with "Wikipedia:", you were effectively starting a new article called "Hotel Pontchartrain (2nd nomination)", which obviously we don't need. Deletion discussion pages should be named "Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/" followed by the name of the page. The quickest way to nominate an article for deletion is to add {{subst:afd}} to the article, save the page, then click the "Preloaded debate" link at the bottom of the notice – this will bring up the correct page along with instructions on what to do next – Gurch 13:42, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/University of North Carolina Tower Chapel Hill

Hello. You have edited this AfD after it was closed, inserting a "keep" comment. Please do not do this - it says right there, in red letters:

Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the article's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this page.

[edit] Jackson, Michigan

Hello, I'm a Wikipedian from Jackson. The history section is a good idea. I'm going home for winter break on Tuesday, and I plan on expanding that section using a book I have on the history of Jackson (we need some references on that page). I'm hoping to model this page after Ann Arbor, Michigan, a current featured article. Hopefully we can eventually make Jackson an FA as well. Do you have any other ideas? Dafoeberezin3494 15:39, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

As far as I can tell, some of the most important things the FA people are looking for right now are making sure articles are NPOV, and that articles have refs + inline citations. I've never written one myself, so I'm not sure what else they will look for. Anyway, thanks again for the chart and if you have any other ideas, add them to the page. Happy editing! Critical --

I sent an email to Ella Sharp, asking for some help on the history section. I added the motor sports section tonite. Judging by the clump of "edit" tags, I fear I might've messed up the formatting tho. Tim Wohlford, Jackson.

[edit] Spring Arbor, Michigan vs. Spring Arbor, Michigan (CDP)

You may post on my user page if you wish about the CDP issue. I'm really interested in understanding how the SA CDP article vs. the SA Community article confuses you. I'm completely open to comment, but I still object to merging the CDP article with the Community article simply because the two are not the same.
I see that you are form Jackson, which is near to Spring Arbor. The best regional comparison I can give is that the community of Jackson is not the same as the "City of Jackson." Jackson extends beyond this area into Blackman, Summit and Leoni Townships. The "community" of Jackson fits this concept, however the "City of Jackson" obviously does not. The Spring Arbor, Michigan (CDP) is comparable to the area immediately surrounding the City of Jackson's DDA. Obviously "Jackson" includes more than just the DDA. Likewise, it would not make sense to say that Jackson, Michigan includes only the City of Jackson, Michigan (referring to the municipality); it includes the actual community. The Spring Arbor, Michigan (CDP) was specifically designated to give statistics specific to the area immediately surrounding Spring Arbor University.
If the statistics for the Jackson Downtown Development Authority were merged with the Jackson, Michigan article as if the Jackson, Michigan article referred to the DDA, it would not make sense. The Jackson, Michigan article does not refer specifically to the DDA of Jackson; it refers to a much larger area. This closely parallels on the same level as is currently being proposed by merging the CDP article with the community article, as would be the case if one were to suggest merging the Jackson DDA with the Jackson, Michigan article. Please let me know what objections you have that confuse you about the current article. I'm willing to work out a wording that will fit both your understanding and my own local understanding. mdkarazim 03:34, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Help on Ogg

You are not very clear. What operating system are you on? What kind of software did you try? And more importantly what kind of Ogg files did you try to play? Audio? Video? Mixed?

I'll assume you are on Windows, and trying to play a video. You should install illi's codecs as mentioned on the steps in the page. Then you open your Direct Show player (I assume it's WMP), and drag and drop the file into it.--Saoshyant talk / contribs (I don't like Wikipedophiles) 11:39, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

If you want a media player that can play literally every format on the planet without having to install additional codecs, I highly recommend VideoLAN [1]. When you install VideoLAN, if you tick 'ActiveX plugin' and 'Mozilla plugin' (for Firefox browser, which I recommend [2]), then when you click on an OGG file on Wikipedia, it will play it within your web browser. Otherwise, when you click on an OGG file it will open it in a seperate VLC player window. Madder 21:07, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
I just wnat to play it in Windows Media Player, and even after installing the codecs provided in the "help" page for ogg it still didn't work in WMP when just clicking on ogg here at wikipedia an expecting it to open my WMP. --Criticalthinker 21:15, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Again I recommend VLC, but if you want to use WMP, you need to install the Windows Media Player plugin for Ogg vorbis - see [3]. If you right-click the link to an OGG vorbis file on Wikipedia, choose Save as, save the file, then start WMP and attempt to open the file, does it play? And which version of WMp are you using? Madder 21:24, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Carrying on. After you install illi's codecs, the next step is to make WMP the default player for all Ogg files. What you need to do, is save one Ogg file to the disk (video or audio), right click on it, choose Open With, Choose Program, then scan the software list for WMP, and before you click the OK button, tick on the check box "Make this application the default one for this file type", or some similar option (it shouldn't be hard to find). From then one, every Ogg file should open by default on WPM.

If you find these tips useful, you may want to help other people in the future, who may have difficulties with Ogg files. It's your choice, though.--Saoshyant talk / contribs (I don't like Wikipedophiles) 14:57, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
