Talk:Crissy Doll
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fellow editors, in an attempt to cut down on external editors potentially abusing references and external links section for linkspam, (see edit version 14:30, 10 April 2006.) I am ushering in the following change that I hope you will all assist me in keeping accurate: I will be alphabetizing the references and links page by order of insert alpha criteria here, whether by author name, domain name or title of page. I hope this will work to cut down on potential abuses, and your assistance in this matter is appreciated. Thanks.

[edit] Welcome new editors
Dear editors – Your contributions are much appreciated. Those editing under IP’s might want to consider registering with Wikipedia for access to enhanced features such as using the edit summary.
Important: please understand that removal of an article’s text should be explained in an edit summary or on the article’s talk page. As the goal is to ADD TO and enrich the article, editors should take caution and be accountable.Sgc0513 20:34, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Thank you, for your comments.--KingDavidsWife 12:28, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
Dear KingDavidsWife - Looking up your User name I see you have no other contributions to the Wikipedia, hope you will take advantage of the opportunies here and become a productive editor on the many articles, doll related or otherwise.
BTW: not sure WHO you wished to refer to, so pardon me as I edit out the mistaken identity. Most Wikipedians choose not to reveal any personal information, this should be respected. Thanks! Sgc0513 14:55, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Pullstring discussion
Of particular interest is the non-word “pullstring”. Editors might agree that this best describes a string you have to pull to make a doll talk, etc… So, for the purposes of this doll article the hyphenated form “pull-string” is probably the most correct method to make the description. Also let’s strive for consistency – if “black” is used to describe a dark-skinned doll, use that in all instances and avoid any entry of other wordings. Sgc0513 20:35, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Black vs. African-American, agreed. Some African-Americans are white so the term in growing archaic, as has been pointed out by black acquaintances.--KingDavidsWife 12:33, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
Black VERSUS African-American? That wasn't in the discussion. And whether either term is archaic or not isn't the point, just consistency in the body of the article to use either "Black" or African-American when describing those dolls. This is just a suggestion for the benefit of the article and the readers. Also African-American is a Wikilink to an article so I feel it's beneficial in that respect as well. [edit] Recent edits - definitions
Attachment or Device? Both are proper, but attachment gives a better visual picture to the reader of the function and position. Reverted, as changing to “device” did not seem to enhance or add to the article.
Actuate vs. Activated – Editors, the dictionary is your friend, and there are online resources you can use to check definitions. The word “actuate” means: 1 : to put into mechanical action or motion 2 : to move to action – while “activated” is commonly used in the chemical sense - to make (as molecules) reactive or more reactive. The goal is not to simply change things but produce the most accurate and informative article possible for readers. Please do the research before editing. Reverted to: actuate.
Removal of “non-mechanical” – as no Crissy dolls were produced of a mechanical nature BEFORE the Movin Groovin model the implications of the doll’s feature is clear to the reader. Hint: A picture could help to illustrate the feature.
Misc. – if Baby Crissy is the size of a nine month old then she could not wear baby clothes from 0-9 months the former text was more and accurate and this was reverted. Sgc0513 20:39, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] a new link
My friend, Barb, and I have just opened a web store to sell vintage doll clothes. She designs and sells Mod Era clothes for Ideal Crissy. Perhaps people reading your article, might be wanting new clothes for their Crissy doll? I am very new at this and am not sure if this is an appropriate link, but we would appreciate any consideration you give our store very much. The website is http://www.nostalgicdollfashions.com. I plan to add a link to your Crissy page under the heading, "Learn More About Crissy." Thanks again for any help you may be able to give us. You can reach me at nostalgicdollfashions@yahoo.com.
Sincerely, Rita
[edit] Wikipedia is an Online Encyclopedia
Rita,
Thanks for your questions. All Wikipedia articles belong to the whole community, however there are certain guidelines to observe. Suggesting you both read What Wikipedia is not and also The Five Pillars. The more you read the better you will understand the purpose of the Wikipedia, and thus all will benefit from your contributions.
Be cautious that any editing you do will not be be in violation of WP Spam. Past revisions of this doll article pointed only to one website and one Crissy publication, when there were a host of other information sources online and in print. Some of us Wikipedians took thought about this and by our actions the article now is improved and better meets guidelines and the Manual of Style. Generally, external links should be placed in the under the External links heading and creating a heading just to place a link in it is a form of "linkspam". This community generally agrees that Wikipedia is not a "soapbox", nor a place in cyberspace to attempt to commercially advertise. All the best. Sgc0513 22:48, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Tara, Tressy & Cricket - Crissy "family" dolls T or F?
Changed verbage in the interest of removing any POV from the article. Since everyone does not agree totally on the subject this action improves the article. If any editors have further suggestions please note them here in the disscussion page. Sgc0513 19:25, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
