This picture seems to be taken from the English edition of the dtv-World Atlas.

Specifically, it is from p. 68 of The Anchor Atlas of World History, Volume II, 1978 ed., Anchor Press/Doubleday (New York). This is an English version of DTV - Atlas zur Weltgeschichte, Vol. 2, 1966 ed., Deutscher Taschenbuch Verlag GmbH & Co. User:DSYoungEsq 20 Sep 2005

    • Mark "Fairusein" (done) until someone draws a map and keep for now. This is a rather old book and highly unlikely to become a legal issue. m:Copyright paranoia damages WP orphaning articles of important illustrations. While in many cases keeping out images which may pose a legal threat is important, this is clearly not the case. If only users spent more time writing content rather than hunting for images, especially the ones that would never pose a legal threat and especially the ones critically important for the articles. --Irpen 17:30, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, but 1978 is not old, plus the most recent edition of this atlas is from 1995 or even 2003 (see [1])!. There is almost no chance that the copyright on this has expired. Furthermore, the principle of Fair use does not apply here at all. Please, read carefully what that is all about. Finally, this image is of rather poor quality anyway, so fighting to keep it is rather pointless. In response to your suggestion, I don't make a habit of hunting for images that should be deleted (this is my first in a long time on English Wikipedia). Balcer 17:44, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

I disagree with image deletion until the new one is drawn to replace it. The article without image is almost useless. Perhaps Halibutt or Panonian can draw a replacement? If Halibutt takes up on this, please make sure the correct names are used (no Kijow, etc like here. Feel free to inquire about names if unsure. --Irpen 18:08, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Irpen, Wikipedia is very serious about not using copyrighted images. There is absolutely no rule which states: keep copyrighted image until a replacement is found. Sorry. Plus, this is not fair use. Please justify how fair use applies, or kindly remove the tag. Balcer 18:09, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
I already spoke. Let others have a say. --Irpen 18:10, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
I removed the fair use tag. You are welcome to reinsert it, provided you first justify how that very specific exception for including copyrighted images applies in this case. Balcer 18:15, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
