Crime As Forgiven By was the second real release by the folk punk band Against Me!, but the first to actually achieve any level of circulation, due to their previous self-titled 12" only ever having 145 copies sold. The record was recorded when Against Me! was only a two-member band; guitarist/vocalist Tom Gabel and drummer/vocalist Kevin Mahon. The CD version contains six songs, although only four were on the vinyl edition that was released by Against Me!'s Sabot Productions. The CD version was released by Plan-It-X Records with 2 more songs, "Impact" and "Burn". The CD has been repressed by Sabot Productions.

In early 2005, after Against Me! signed with Fat Wreck Chords and released As the Eternal Cowboy, it was requested by the band that Plan-It-X no longer repress the album and give them back all the rights to it.
