Crillon-le-Brave

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Crillon-le-Brave is a small village and commune in the Vaucluse département, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur région of France. Population (1999): 398.

It is about 2 kilometers from Bédoin, and about 15 kilometers from Carpentras.

Like many of the older villiages in the region, it was built on a hilltop for defensive purposes and to provide more farmland on the plains below. It is a very small town, with only one paved road running through the middle. It contains little more than a café, a hotel, a restaurant, a church, and a school.

Originally called Crillon, the village was remained Crillon-le-Brave ("the brave") in honor of Louis des Balbes de Berton de Crillon.
