Question

Thank you for comming to my help request. I have been trying revert a few pages that have either been partialy vandelised or where new informaation has been added but there is no sorce to back up the claim. I have tried to revert, but with no luck. Everytime i check it in prewiew it has not worked the way it should have done, so i just leave it. I can't quite work out what i do worng despite checking my actions. Any idea as to what i might be doing wrong? Thank you for your time. Hon.DJP 21:06, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, you may have one

The Working Man's Barnstar
For reverting vandalism, copyediting, and your work at WP:MOTD. I'm sure you've done a lot more, but I thought giving you a combo barnstar would be best. Peace, Tohru Honda13 01:06, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

You have mistakenly identified my edit as vandalism

In the article on Phenomenon, I rearranged the sections in a more logical way, so that the general use of the term comes before the...well, not general. However you (or more likely your script, since it happened so quickly) reverted the edit, and accused me of vandalism:

Reverted 1 edit by Am088 identified as vandalism to last revision by Peterdjones. using TW

According to Wikipedia:Vandalism,

Vandalism is any addition, removal, or change of content made in a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia.

Since my edit was not an "attempt to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia," I assume that it was a mistake, and I'd like you to take any steps to prevent that from happening.

I would also like to advise you to make a few changes to the message you leave:

  • Use the standard ==Heading== rather than ===Subheading=== when replying -- you are not replying to the last message on my talk page and it messes up my table of contents.
  • Leave have a link to where I should report false edits or malfunctions such as this one, especially if you are using beta scripts such as Twinkle.
  • Remove the welcome message. I already have been welcomed three years ago.

Thanks

Warning Templates

Only use the {{subst:uw-vandalism3|NameOfPageVandalized}}, or any equivalent template after another warning has been posted. Instead of using the aforementioned template you can use the {{subst:uw-vandalism4im|NameOfPageVandalized}} if the vandalism is serious enough on the first vandalization. Hi to you, too

'Ello. Not much -- I just got two awesome records for $2.50. I made three userboxes to celebrate. :D

abc This user may be a teenager, but he or she loves vinyl records.

abc This user loves vinyl records.

abc This user likes vinyl records more than CDs or any other form of music.

The records are awesome ... one by The Who and one by The Police. Muahahaa. --Theunicyclegirl 21:34, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

I know, there's an awesome music store around here that sells used records for like nothing. Mine were in the $1 bin and the $3 bin, but were 40% off because they were used. Plus tax. They're both sort of classic rock. The Police have some reggae influences though. --Theunicyclegirl 21:38, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Technically they're punk rock, but they were punk rock of their time. Now they sound more like classic rock compared to today's punk. I still love them, though. -- Theunicyclegirl 21:40, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, it is. But not all their stuff is that cheap. New CDs are $16.50. Still, the records are nice and cheap because not many people buy them. Except for me. I wish current artists would release their music on vinyl... --Theunicyclegirl 21:41, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Ha. Nice. To go new page patrolling, click here. Try to find things that sound like they might meet deletion criteria. To make it easier, go to User:Lupin/anti-vandal_tool (I think that's the right link...) and add it to your monobook. --Theunicyclegirl 21:47, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

I usually go every time I'm online, however not always. Why do you ask? -- Theunicyclegirl 21:50, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
I was denied AutoWiki AntiVandal? I think you may mean VandalProof. And yes, that may be why. However, I need to get my edit count up anyway for many things. I've been working on it ;) -- Theunicyclegirl 21:56, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
AntiVandal is just a script. It's free for anyone to use. I think you mean VandalProof (see above.) -- Theunicyclegirl 21:58, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Hehe. Third time's the charm! --Theunicyclegirl 21:59, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: Question on MOTD

Can anyone close a nomination, even if he or she voted on the motto? I moved three nominations into the awaiting list, and I'd like to close a couple, just to get a feel of how to do it. Thanks in advance. --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 22:37, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Oh I see now, users involved in the discussion can't close it. Could you still show me how? --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 22:38, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
I appreciate your willingness to help. To answer your first question, I'll start by saying that it's more of a guideline that users involved in the discussion not also close it. The phrasing in the procedure is to prevent someone from going against consensus to close a nomination (e.g. if only one person supported the motto, we wouldn't want them to close it). By having a third person close nominations, the closing is much more likely to be neutral. However, as in my recent mass closing, I felt it necessary to clear out the increasingly larger nominations page, which included many that I had voted for. The closing was purely out of need, and I tried to go with consensus on each nomination, even if it was against my vote. If I was in doubt, or might have caused some controversy, I reopened it. So, if you're just getting a feel for the process, it's probably best that you pick ones you're not involved with.
Here is an example from Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates of a nomination closed by the nominator. You can see their reason at the bottom of the page states that it was a clear consensus of support. That's about how motto nominations should be closed.
To close a nomination, you basically follow the closing procedure on the nominations page. Here I have summarized:
  1. Pick from "Awaiting decision".
  2. Determine consensus, if any.
  3. See this discussion for when to approve, reject, or reopen.
    From my experience:
Nominations may only be approved if consensus favors support of the motto.
Nominations may be reopened only once and only if: they have not received enough votes to gain supporting consensus, but promise to if given a second chance.
All other nominations should be rejected, including those that have not reached consensus.
Try to keep the closing as uncontroversial as possible. If in doubt, reopen (or don't close it at all!).
  4. Either approve, reject, or reopen.
  5. If approved or rejected, archive entire nomination.
  6. If approved, add approved page.
  7. If rejected, only archive.
  8. If reopened, copy full discussion (including edits? it's probably best to keep them together) to "In review".
Hopefully that helps. --Tewy 00:25, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
I already have another question... :). The last motto on the awaiting list has three support votes (one from me). Is this enough to go ahead and say that it can be used? Or should it be re-opened? --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 01:07, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
I assume you meant: Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations#If this is your limit, you can't exceed it; If you exceed it, it's not your limit. ...And it looks like Steptrip has already reopened it. Sorry for not responding in time. In any case, I suppose it would have had enough support to approve it, considering how many votes most nominations get, but reopening it was safe, especially considering the comment made by Steptrip about not getting it. I'm quickly developing a policy of "if in doubt, reopen", and this goes along those lines. --Tewy 01:44, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Your editor review

Not a problem at all reviewing you and you do great work. My concern with your edits toWikipedia:Motto of the day is that the motto's are displayed on userpages, its not really helping the encyclopedia, in an Rfa, high(ish) number of edits to this project could lead to opposes - i.e. wastes too much time on userspace than mainspace. I know its not your major work, but it is something worth considering for the future, anymore questions, let me know! Cheers Ryanpostlethwaite contribs/talk 01:19, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

WP:AIV

We usually don't tell people they've been reported to WP:AIV. It goes like this:

  1. Warn user as long as necessary (depends on severity and frequency of vandalism)
  2. Report to WP:AIV
  3. If they get blocked, then the admin will place a warning themselves. If they don't get blocked, then we just don't do anything- typically users aren't blocked because they have stopped vandalizing or have not been warned sufficiently. --Wafulz 19:45, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

OH MY GOD!! If any of Xiner's sysop duties have been stressing him or her out, Xiner should leave a request for de-sysoppment on meta, for the good of the community.  ~Steptrip 00:29, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Also fooled

Why does it scare you? They won't actually do it. Think about it. --Theunicyclegirl (talk, review me!) 00:35, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Xiner's IP

If Xiner lives then the IP geolocation test has confirmed that his IP is: 151.202.74.135. Please tell me if it is wrong, and if it is, please tell me what it is.  ~Steptrip 02:17, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

I just saw a comment on Xiner's talk saying that you "should go back to your dolphins" from that IP, so I just want to make sure it wasn't one of his pranks.  ~Steptrip 02:27, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
On a completely different note, please view this important video announcement from Jimbo Wales.  ~Steptrip 02:37, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Redian:Assignments and Questions

Hey, rather than some long drawn out message, I'll keep it to: I'm looking for a mentor to show me the ropes, would you please adopt me? Redian 01:04, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Of course I still want to be adopted. Expect the 1st assignment done by Sunday, probably before then. Redian 01:32, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey, Question: Can Table be made with HTML? Is there something I have to do to use HTML on wikipedia? Or Must I use the wikimarkup?Redian(Talk, My UserPage) 22:56, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
I think I did you one better for the second assignment, three reverts of unnecessary edits:
  1. Bengal Tiger
  2. Zoo
  3. Smoking (dismabiguation)

Hey, what is my tool box and where is it found? While I'm at it, next time I ask you a question, should I change the topic of this particular discussion on your talk page to something more suitable to what it contains?Redian(Talk) 23:04, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

I hope the heading change isn't to intrusive, but I figure it describes and will describe the bulk of my posts to you. On another note, I'm very very happy with all the info you're giving me I'm finding it quite useful. I'm eagerly awaiting the next assignment, also, do you still want me to give you a diff for the sandbox, or was what I dropped you already fine? Redian (Talk) 04:03, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
