New assignment

Hi. I've been unexpectedly busy in the past few days, and I've had to held off many things I wanted to do on Wikipedia, including assignments to any of my adoptees. Please be patient. Thank you. Xiner (talkcontribs) 22:34, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

The bot hasn't been doing my talk page consistently either. I'll have to ask Werdna7 about it. Xiner (talk, email) 01:01, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

I like your usage page, and your extra-credit homework was perfect. The new assignment will be up by the end of tonight at User:Xiner/Adoptee assignments. Xiner (talk, email) 01:21, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Please remember to sign your messages, and I really like the edit summary reminder because people don't use it all too often. Otherwise, keep it up! Xiner (talk, email) 01:46, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I'm sure you've figured this out already, but changes to your user page, unlike those to your talk page, do not cause the famous yellow "New message" sign to pop up. You should thus bookmark your watchlist.

I've made a change to your user page. Feel free to edit it any way you want. Xiner (talk, email) 02:00, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure if that's possible, or even necessary. What I should've said is "visit your watchlist frequently", which I think you're doing already. Xiner (talk, email) 02:11, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Some people do rig their talk pages so that a bot lets them know in WP:IRC when a new message is posted on their talk page. So it's not out of the question. I'm on Wikipedia often enough to not need it, though. Xiner (talk, email) 02:15, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Oooooh, nice! Thank you! Yum yum. Xiner (talk, email) 02:20, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

People are working on it. You can ask at the help desk or village pump to see if someone can point you at the exact location. There is opposition to the idea, however, due to concerns that it's too impersonal and all too often ignored by the new user, and the reason new users are not now automatically greeted. Xiner (talk, email) 02:28, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Alright. Sleep well. Xiner (talk, email) 02:39, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Greeters

Plenty do, most don't. I don't go out of my way to do it, as I've enough pages to keep me occupied most of the time. When a new user edits a page on my watchlist, though, I always greet them and hope that some of the IP users will register an account as a result. Unfortunately, sometimes I've to warn them as well. Xiner (talk, email) 23:51, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

That's very cool. Keep it up. Xiner (talk, email) 00:37, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
I'm stumped, but you can try to hang out at WP:VPT, and maybe ask there. Xiner (talk, email) 00:50, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Nomination and project suggestion

Hello. If it's okay, I'd like to nominate myself for your user page design "hall of fame." If you want to, check out my user page (don't forget to look at the subpages). Also, may I have your signature, PLEASE??? Thanks for your time! --Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 20:45, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your autograph! Did my user page look alright?

--Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 21:30, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

You're user page is awesome, and your style and enthusiasm reminds me of user:Anthony_cfc who currently has 3 designs in the Hall. I'll take a snapshot of yours and will add it to the list when I get a moment (I'm about to eat lunch).
By the way, I need to let you know that there's a problem with this part of your signature: {{User:Cremepuff222/Signature Header}}. It keeps showing up at the top of my talk page.
I noticed that almost all of your edits are to user pages. Would you be interested in working on the encyclopedia? There's a project in the Wikipedia namespace that I know of in which your graphical and wiki-markup skills would be very applicable. Let me know if you are interested. The Transhumanist   21:45, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Sorry it took me so long to respond! I didn't realize that you would answer in your talk page!

I think I fixed the signature thing. I am interested in that thing you told me about. Also, do you think that you can respond on my talk page? Thanks! --Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 21:51, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
No, the signature thing still doesn't work right. That template you are using in your signature -- that isn't included in your autosig in your "my preferences", is it? Templates and images wreak havoc with page formatting when placed in the autosig, and therefore the autosig instructions specifically state not to include them in there. Just thought I'd check. The Transhumanist   15:44, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

This is my exact signature as shown in my preferences:

<span style="font-family: Monotype Corsiva; font-size: 12pt">--[[User:Cremepuff222|<font color="008000">Cremepuff222</font>]] ([[User talk:Cremepuff222|<font color="2F4F4F">talk</font>]], [[User:Cremepuff222/Autograph Book|<font color="2F4F4F">sign book</font>]]) </span>

I don't see anything wrong, and my signature doesn't mess up anyone else's pages. (Can you please respond on my talk page?) --Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 00:39, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

The above signature appears to be error free. The problem seemed to have been caused by the following subpage template:

{{User:Cremepuff222/Signature Header}}

BTW, I've added your user page to the list of examples at the UPDC. Nice job.

The project I'm hoping you'll take a look is Welcoming committee, its subpages, and welcome page templates (especially those). Anythony cfc, Audacity, and I have been revamping the project. Audacity and I are currently working on improving the set of welcome messages which the Welcoming committee uses to greet new users. (See Audacity's message to me above). I look forward to seeing your creative input on the project. The Transhumanist   18:58, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Greetings message

It's a very visually attractive page. You may want to talk to people on the various greetings/welcome pages if they'd like your design. As a welcome message on a user talk page, it may be a tad too space-consuming. Xiner (talk, email) 19:43, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Should we talk here or at my page?

Snidleysnide 21:53, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

I have a question about image tagging on the Bruce Hornsby article. I am going to try to find the paragraph that I just added to the help page, and post it here...give me a second...Snidleysnide 21:56, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Ok, sorry, here's my question:

I've recently uploaded four images to the Bruce Hornsby article.

I used the

Copyrighted NOTE: The following conditions must not include terms which restrict usage to educational or not-for-profit purposes or prohibit derivatives. Please list this image for deletion if they do.
This image is copyrighted. The copyright holder allows anyone to use it for any purpose, provided that

image tag, thinking that tag would allow me to give the source of the images appropriate credit. Another User, User:Moeron brought to my attention that this tag is only used in cases where the original photographer is uploading work. I made a mistake. (In all fairness, I based my use of the tag on an image that appears on jam band, which seemed to be done correctly...evidently that was mistagged as well)

My question is, how should these images be tagged? They are images from http://www.bruuuce.com, a Bruce Hornsby fan website, and the copyright is held by Si Twining, the owner and operator of the site. Prior to uploading the images, I asked his permissions, then, after having been made aware of my tagging error, I formally requested his permissions with the Wikipedia form letter.

I have received confirmation of permissions granted from the holder of copyrights for the images, and I have sent that information to the m:OTRS system for review. I am about to make note of this on each image page.

In the meantime, how should these images be tagged? Thanks Snidleysnide 21:58, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks anyway. It's been an ordeal. Other users have been uploading and mistagging images to many musician pages, and it has been a recent problem at Bruce Hornsby. I've even been accused of being a sock puppet of another user, so it has kind of gotten out of hand. Snidleysnide 22:07, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Overreaction to the extreme

In regard to my "Impersonation" Jimbo Wales on your autograph book, you did indeed overreact to the extreme & I'm not the only one who thinks so. This is a reoccuring joke throughout Wikipedia & I take you have not, nor has anyone else other than you, complained about a harmless joke. I'm sorry I hurt your volatile feelings (You are a girl after all), but I was merely trying to be nice. If you can't recognise that, then there's not much I can do for you. Since you wanted Jimbo to sign, I thought I'd be nice & sign it for him (Like santa's helpers...). Never knew you would take a kind gesture so seriously. Now I've got admins threatening me & my names all over incidents pages because you acted like your user name suggests - a cremepuff. Now I'll give you an apology if that's what you want & I'm very sorry if I hurt your feelings with my good intentions. Remember, WP:AGF... Spawn Man 22:16, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

So are we cool now? I have no hard feelings against you. Have a nice day... Spawn Man 23:21, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

May I ask what this is? "Help? If you're mad at that Spawn Man, please let me know. --Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 23:23, 2 March 2007 (UTC)" Please do not meddle with vandalism warnings. In a future RfA of yours, someone may see this as taking the side of a vandal. Thank you. If you want me to take this to the incident's board then just say... Spawn Man 23:40, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Now you're calling me unimportant & smelly? I protest & I'm taking this to an admin requesting you be blocked unless you apologise for uncivil edit summaries, calling me a pervert & requesting other users complain about me per WP:Spam.. Spawn Man 23:57, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

What do you need me to do?

RE:Article Issue

What was the problem with the Hacky Sack article? I'm sorry I couldn't respond as quickly as I wanted, as I was at my grandparents' house.  ~Steptrip 01:41, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Various

Cremepuff222, I don't know if I explained this before you signed up under my tutelage, but I'm not a very intensive kind of tutor. I only hand out assignments every two weeks or so. If you're seeking more, it may be a good idea to seek an additional, or even another, tutor - really, it's not a problem with me. I don't want to hold anyone back.

Now, I've read your exchanges with SpawnMan, and sorry I didn't realize it'd gotten that far. He's done it before so his pleads for innocence fall on my deaf ears, but if I may have one suggestion for you: don't get led into useless arguments. State the facts, and if he disagrees, let him. Admins are obviously on the case, so you needn't worry about his jibes. Xiner (talk, email) 01:55, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I know how easy it is to be sucked into a dead-end argument. I've actually tried to pull myself away from the help desk and get back to the article writing business, but it's hard. If you want, you can read up on WP:AFD and other WP:XFDs. It's good to know how to destroy as well as create. Just kidding. Xiner (talk, email) 02:05, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
No, just read about AfD and XfD, and observe the discussions. As for SpawnMan, it's not a problem. Xiner (talk, email) 02:14, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

A medley of Comments

I agree with you on the subject of the userbox, however I can't edit the userbox without affecting the userpages of others who use that userbox (that besides, a user far more ignorant than you and I may come along and get in a quarrel with both of us :-) ). As for the Jimbo Wales impersonator, you should report him directly to an administrator (I suggest Alphachimp) on the grounds of impersonating an official on the English Wikipedia, being uncivil, trying to make sexual innuendos, being obnoxious, and using sexist language (the latter 2 of the above reasons are not really reportable but get on the nerves of editors).  ~Steptrip 02:16, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Good point, however, if this guy continues this behavior, I implore you to report him to someone.

I have also edited a userbox without any disagreements, but adding only "his" or only "her" to the userbox would violate gender-neutral language, of which I am a supporter, and adding "his/her" to the userbox disrupts the flow of the rhythm of the words (this is not a very strong argument, I know, userboxes are all about images and the rhythm of words, as you most likely know).  ~Steptrip 02:25, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

I've fixed the userbox issue.  ~Steptrip 02:41, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah easy for you to say:

Yes it's easy for you to say that this argument is over. I've got about 3 people that have called me a pervert & that I sexually harrassed you. You know why Cremepuff?????? Because you freakin told freakin EVERYONE!!!! So now I'm going to have this black mark over me because you took things way out of control & blabbed around to everyone. Thanks a bunch! I can't handle this - I've had too much rubbish in my real life without all these people I don't know judging me on stuff I didn't do.... Spawn Man 02:57, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, but it's too little too late. I am a nice person & would never sexual harrass anyone. You know why, because I've had to put up with myself in real life. Now everyone thinks I'm a pervert becuase you got all your friends to give you advice on how to pursecute me. I don't think I can stay on Wikipedia if people start thinking that about me... Is that okay?

Those are all great. I am particularly good at #2 and #3, but I have sufficient experience to help you with all of the others. I won't as much assign you to do things, but I will give you suggestions and help you carry them out. My first suggestion is to read these articles: Wikipedia:Vandalism, Wikipedia:Simplified Ruleset, and Help:Reverting. These pages all contain necessary information for you to start. Then you should go to New Pages and look for anything that looks like it needs editing or needs to be deleted. You will want to be familiar with Wikipedia:Templates but the best way to become familiar with those is to use them in a hands-on setting. If you find an article that fits Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion, use the appropriate Template. Make sure to warn the author of its request for deletion by using the code at the bottom of the speedy deletion box. Also, you can use the templates to warn them if they vandalized, created an inappropriate page, etc. I'm sorry to tell you so much, but it all sort of comes in one big chunk. My number one rule, though? Ask questions! Good luck! --Theunicyclegirl 20:16, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Good luck!

That's for sure! Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions! I'm hanging out on the New pages anyway so you might see my edits! ;P

Assignment

If you want a copyediting assignment, copyedit Hair dye stripping. It is a very new page with quite a few errors and style problems. --Theunicyclegirl 20:27, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

That's an understatement. So, pop quiz! If you see an article like this, what is the first thing you do? --Theunicyclegirl 20:29, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
*Applauds* Very nice! You got an A+! --Theunicyclegirl 20:34, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
Part 2 of your assignment: Follow through with it and then begin to edit. When you're done, I'll check your copyedits just to make sure you have the basics down. --Theunicyclegirl 20:36, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
That's fine, I just want a general idea of what you can do. --Theunicyclegirl 21:31, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
Just one: here --Theunicyclegirl 21:34, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
It's very good. Good enough to get rid of the cleanup tag. You might want to add the expand tag on there, though, because it definitely needs it. That's not your fault though. ;) How has the reading been going? Have you made it over to the New pages yet? Sorry I was gone, I was taking a wikibreak. ;) --Theunicyclegirl 21:37, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Templates

That's definitely a legitimate problem. Here's my interpretation of speedy deletion templates (examples in quotes are taken from real pages):

Code Example Use
{{db-attack}} "zach dunlap is a gay fag, so please dont delete it!" For a page that someone created to abuse/insult another person
{{db-author}} (I don't have an example, this one isn't used often) If the author was the only/major editor of the page and he/she requested its deletion
{{db-bio}} Random Person was born in 2003 in Whoknowswhere, Colorodo... For a page about someone with no great importance
{{db-blanked}} " " If a page was made by mistake or if it is blank.
{{db-copyvio|url=source url}} (Obviously copyright infringement) See <---
{{db-empty}} Sewing machines use thread. For a really short article that doesn't show its importance, context, or is included in another article.
{{db-nonsense}} akl;kfjaghjashfg;lkghj A page of gobbledegook.
{{db-spam}} Go to www.randompage.com and buy your random pages today! A page blatantly advertising something.
{{db-reason|reason goes here}} (None) If the reason isn't included in any other speedy deletion templates but is in the criteria for speedy deletion.
{{db-repost}} (None) If the example had been previously deleted but was then reposted.
{{db-vandalism}} "BLAHBLAHBLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH..." For vandalizing xD
{{delete}} (None) If you have no reason (I wouldn't suggest using this)

--Theunicyclegirl 21:59, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

On a user's page you should add the little bit at the bottom (for example on the {{db-bio}} one, you should post: {{subst:nn-warn|Wikipedia:Template messages/Deletion}} ~~~~ ) Also, if it's vandalizing, edit tests, blanking, or things like that you should post the correct warning on Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace. --Theunicyclegirl 22:07, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm assuming you meant on the user talk namespace. Yes, there is one for each degree of vandalism. {{uw-vandalism1}} makes a box that says, pretty much, "The edit you added was counterproductive and was removed." {{uw-vandalism2}} says something like, "You've been adding info that isn't helpful, please stop." {{uw-vandalism3}} says, essentially, "Please stop vandalizing." {{uw-vandalism4}} pretty much says, "This is your final warning, stop NOW." And {{uw-vandalism4im}} is only used for really bad vandalism. It says, pretty much, "If you do this one more time you will be blocked." --Theunicyclegirl 22:17, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Step-by-step

  1. Find the bit at the very bottom of the pink warning box that says,

Please consider placing {{subst:spam-warn|RealNerds}} ~~~~ or {{subst:spam-warn|RealNerds|header=1}} ~~~~ on the User Talk page of the author.

  1. Copy either (I use the first one, they're essentially the same)
  2. Click on the history tab of the article where you can see the edits that have been made
  3. Scroll to the first edit where the page was created
  4. Click on the name of the user -- it will take you to his/her user page
  5. Click on the discussion tab at the top of the user page
  6. Paste the syntax (the bit you copied) into the message
  7. Hit save

PART TWO!

Hope this helps!

--Theunicyclegirl 22:24, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

You're welcome and thank you! This is my first time ever adopting someone, but I'm doing my best! ;D I would keep hanging around New pages for a while until you get used to the templates. You can also practice your copyediting there. --Theunicyclegirl 22:32, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
Okay, bye! --Theunicyclegirl 22:34, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

RE:Article Size

Well, in short ... I have no idea, it should tell you in the edit window if the article is too large, or if it doesn't, you can just estimate (I utilize the latter =P). ~Steptrip 02:01, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

RE:Directions

Here are the directions (tell me when you complete each step):

  1. Go to this page and copy the code (right-click and select copy form the drop down menu) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Steptrip (talkcontribs) 03:01, 4 March 2007 (UTC). By the way, can you check out my userpage again? -Steptrip 03:03, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

A Medley of Comments

You do know that you could have left the other scripts in your monobook.js file, don't you? Another thing, I know that Wikipedia is not a soapbox, and that it is morally wrong to gossip, but this is something that I feel that you should know: Essjay (an administrator, bureaucrat, oversight, CheckUser, and Employee of Wikia, Inc.) has retired because he used false academic credentials to gain those positions? Please do not spread this gossip (I've left these comments on this page and on Alphachimp's talk page and I don't want to spread it anymore). -Steptrip 17:41, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

I think pretty much everyone who would be interested in this information has heard about the situation by now. For better or worse, it's been fairly widely discussed. Newyorkbrad 17:47, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
You can find your monobook file here (the page title is User:Cremepuff222/monobook.js, note that the m in monobook must be lowercase). -Steptrip 18:20, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
<!--[[User:Cremepuff222/sigContract]];Cremepuff222--> must be changed to <!--[[User:Where/sigContract]];Cremepuff222-->, since the master code (or bot, whichever term that you want to use) is in User:Where's userspace. ~Steptrip 18:26, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Congrats, it is correct. -Steptrip 18:29, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
It basically means "Do not modify any of these message boxes." (I'm going to add <!--Do not edit above this line--> to clarify everything.) -Steptrip 18:32, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Formatting Issue

Are you referring to the code in the edit window? -Steptrip 18:38, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, just set the following code as your raw signature in your "My Preferences" menu with the "<!--[[User:Where/sigContract]];Cremepuff222--> and <!--ESC:Cremepuff22--> surrounding it, then append two new comments to my talk page:

<span style="font-family: Monotype Corsiva; font-size: 12pt">[[User:Cremepuff222|<font color="008000">--Cremepuff222</font>]] ([[User talk:Cremepuff222|<font color="2F4F4F">talk</font>]], [[User:Cremepuff222/Autograph Book|<font color="2F4F4F">sign book</font>]]) </span>

Can you append your signature source code (directly from your Preferences Menu) to my sandbox, which is located here. -Steptrip 19:13, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
PS: I've fixed your edit count hyperlink (removed the square and arrow from the text). -Steptrip 19:18, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Let me rephrase that last direction: Copy and paste your source code between <nowiki></nowiki> tags. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Steptrip (talkcontribs) 19:21, 4 March 2007 (UTC).

Page size

Copy and paste into a text file. Your browser will give you an estimate, too. If the article is really big, MediaWiki will let you know when you try to edit the article. Xiner (talk, email) 22:06, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

I've Fixed It Mwa Ha Ha Ha!!

Just copy and paste the following code into the signature box in your preferences menu (remember to make sure that the raw signature box is checked):

-[[User:Cremepuff222|Cremepuff222]]

-Steptrip 22:52, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

RE:What was wrong

You had two hyphens immediately preceding your username in your old signature, which was somehow interfering with the script (most likely caused by the hyphen automatically added to your contracted signature in the edit window by the script :-). -Steptrip 22:56, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

No, it was a mistake that I'm surprised that I didn't make (I know you're probably not interested in my problems, but I haven't received a single barnstar). -Steptrip 23:00, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Barnstar

Do you mind if I put it on a new page devoted to barnstars? -Steptrip 23:13, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

No idea.

But remember WP:DENY. Xiner (talk, email) 23:23, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

For XfD edit summaries, try to keep the section name, so others will know at a glance which nomination you're commenting/voting on. Say what the vote is, too. Xiner (talk, email) 01:06, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
It may be easier to leave the automatic edit summary alone and add your comments/votes to the end, like this or this or this. Also, if a discussion is overwhelming one way or the other, there's no need to add another comment, since XfD's are not supposed to be polls anyway. Xiner (talk, email) 01:30, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Sig

Could you append your signature source code from your preferences menu to my sandbox between <nowiki></nowiki> tags, and leave two comments on my talk page, yet again: I noticed that the sig in my barnstar has changed. Sorry for the inconvenience. -Steptrip 00:05, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

False Alarm!

Sorry, can you resign that barnstar then? -Steptrip 01:25, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello there. I was just looking at your RFA, and very strange it seems from the absence of comments. Perhaps related to the absence of edits in articles? Sandpiper 19:38, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

I would think only by divine intervention, since it is now part of the administrative record. Sandpiper 23:12, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Too much to encapsulate in one header

Just a few questions:

  1. have you added the code that I appended to your talk page about 3 comments above to your sig box?
  2. You have an RfA?

Good luck, -Steptrip 01:25, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

I agree about my headings being cliche, I'll have to try to make headers more relevant to the message (or at least not use "A Medley of Comments" or "A Medley of responses" and I just updated my sig, tell me if you like it as I'm close to taking a poll on how many people like my sigs :-D ). -Steptrip 01:36, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

I can't believe that she (or he) got blocked because of asking too many users to sign her autograph book (myself being one of them), and I really can't believe that Alphachimp would delete her autographs. I believe that everyone should take a look at the quote on this page (unless you have the same quote on your Autograph page).

P.S. Can you sign my autograph book (it's the tilde in my sig)? -Steptrip 01:37, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Where do you see that your page was nominated for deletion? And I agree about the multi-page edits being spam. Hopefully there will be -Steptrip 01:43, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Strike that last comment, I see it. You can discuss this on the nominator's talk page, the actual deletion nomination itself, or, obviously, omit the parts of the page that do not confirm with WP:MYSPACE (although I do not see how your userpage could be nominated on those grounds, as you include some of your Wikipedia-related activities, and the whole thing was based on the autograph book fiasco and an edit count). I hope this consolation helps. Hopefully there will be some -Steptrip 01:49, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Userpages nominated for deletion

I have nominated many of your user pages for deletion as they seem to run afoul of WP:NOT#MYSPACE. You may comment on the matter at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Cremepuff222. —dgiestc 01:45, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

I wish I'd brought this up with you earlier, Cremepuff222. I too have noticed that you have used the account mainly for user talk page activities. Also, please note that I cannot participate in the MfD you told me about, due to WP:CANVASS. Please be prepared that most of the pages may end up being deleted. If you promise to start contributing to the project (building an encyclopedia), maybe you can save your user page. Xiner (talk, email) 01:54, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Under the special circumstances here, Xiner, I think your participation would be in order and would in fact be quite helpful. You can certainly comment on the situation, even if you don't cast a !vote. Newyorkbrad 01:55, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Why did you just nominate my user page for deletion? I'm pretty sure that I haven't included too much personal information about myself, and it's surely quite unlike myspace. The only thing that I think could be considered social networking is the "About Me" section, but otherwise nothing is overly social. The "Expertise" section is merely to find users who need help with that specific subject, and I can only think of a few people that don't have a "Userbox" or "Awards" section. The user page service is merely to help other users that don't have Wiki-markup skills. Could you please tell me your reasoning? Thank you. -Cremepuff222 01:46, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
These are all similar to things we generally allow in userspace, but the creation and improvement of them seems to be the only reason you are a member of the project. For a significant contributer to the project, I would not have made the nom, but it seems all you're here for is free web hosting. —dgiestc 02:08, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
If I start contributing to the encylcopedia, will I be alright? I recently started a page for my school, and have begun to edit it quite extensively. -Cremepuff222 02:11, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
The thing is, all this time you could have been helping the project, and instead you were just working on your homepage. To make a bunch of mainspace edits right away is kind of missing the point. Don't despair. It's possible people will decide to let it slide, and if they don't you can still ask an admin to retrieve a deleted version for you to put it back up on one of the many sites that provide wiki hosting. —dgiestc 02:21, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
I think the concern that has been expressed is not so much your userpage itself, as all the subpages. See the deletion nomination that is linked to above, and the people's comments on it. This is actually all being said in the spirit of getting you more involved in the article editing other work which are what the project is all about. Newyorkbrad 02:23, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Cremepuff222, please read the advice given you assuming good faith. Also, another way to stay with the project without contributing to articles would be to become a developer. Xiner (talk, email) 02:41, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your kind words. I went to the library for the first time in a long while this week, and took out a book on Manchukuo. That article seriously needs citations, and guess what, a good book on any topic would be a great help to the project. You can take out a book on Polar Bear, and find lots of stuff to write about. That's one idea. I'll let you think it over at leisure. Xiner (talk, email) 02:57, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
You may not understand, but you have about 46 discovered subpages. I know of no other editor who has that many - & they are from someone who has contributed so little to the actual article writing process of Wikipedia. To put it simply, you have not earned the right to have that many subpages. Even if you did start editing articles, the number of subpages you have would undoubtedly need to come down anyway. You can easily compress them - your autograph book can be included on your talk page - user boxes can also be included on your user page or on a single subpage. There are many options, but you simply have too many subpages... Spawn Man 03:51, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Unless you want to became mad, yes. If the userboxes don't take arguments, you can create a single userbox, which, with an #if statement, decide what text you want to display from the argument that you pass to it. Snowolf(talk)CONCOI - 22:19, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

It really didn't take that long, (btw, could you sign my autograph book, the link is the tilde in my signature, and, could you tell me what you think of my new sig). ~Steptrip 00:19, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

H2G2

I've read many of the writing of DNA. Now that'd be something worthy of adding to Wikipedia, if it's not there already. Why you ask? Xiner (talk, email) 00:19, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, glad you liked it. Yeah, discussions there can get monotonous sometimes, and it was too good an opportunity to pass up. Besides which, I wonder if the creator of the category had H2G2 in mind, too. Xiner (talk, email) 00:32, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

WP:TW is it!

Hello, DennyColt! I saw that message you posted on that IP page about Ford. I've been looking for a good vandal warning, so do you think you could show me the one that you use? Thanks!! -Cremepuff222 00:47, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

hi! It's WP:TW, check out my monobook.js file's code for how I'm using it currently... the monobook has a few tools, that I cribbed and took from other's pages after I saw what they were using. TW--it's an awesome tool. I usually do that, and the tools provided by the script's amazing author, and run it vs. recent changes. The messages are just the template ones that are standard, but TW has a simple way to spread them out in the 1-2-3-4th warning formatting... - Denny 00:50, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

RE:Script issues

Can you please direct me to where you got the script that you deleted? (btw, you may want to check this out and check out my comment at the bottom of that page. ~Steptrip 01:13, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Strike that last comment, all the script is is TWINKLE with some added features. I, myself have twinkle in my monobook.js file, and the sigContract script works fine. You can copy the last 3 lines of code from here and add it to your monobook.js file. ~Steptrip 01:20, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
True, the "Cheers and good day" line is not good in heated debates, like that one. ~Steptrip 01:23, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
What is ironic :-P ~Steptrip 01:27, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Nevermind, I can be so blond acting sometimes. ~Steptrip 01:31, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Script Solution

Try copying and pasting the following code into your monobook.js precisely:

importScript('User:AzaToth/morebits.js');
importScript('User:AzaToth/twinklefluff.js');
importScript('Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts/Add LI menu');
importStylesheet('Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts/Add LI menu/css');
importScript('User:AzaToth/twinklewarn.js');
importScript('User:AzaToth/twinklearv.js');
importScript('User:AzaToth/twinklespeedy.js');
importScript('User:AzaToth/twinklediff.js');

Please tell me if this works. ~Steptrip 01:34, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

RE:

Don't add all of my monobook.js, that is set up for my needs and will most likely displease you. Delete everything EXCEPT the AzaToth Scripts and the sigContract scripts from that file (if some of my scripts suit you, you can keep them). ~Steptrip 01:41, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Why didn't I think of this before, copy and paste all of your monobook.js to my sandbox, which is located here, that way I can see what's wrong and hopefully fix it. ~Steptrip 01:46, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Eureka (I hope)

Delete everything from your monobook.js file up to the TWINKLE scripts. then add the code from here immediately AFTER the TWINKLE Scripts (include one line empty of text between the TWINKLE scripts and the code I've fixed). I've also included a script that fixes the problem with lowercase letter titles in the article namespace. ~Steptrip 02:03, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

It's supposed to look sloppy, have you purged your browser's cache (this will make the scripts function) ? ~Steptrip 02:09, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Were you just worried about it's appearance? ~Steptrip 02:13, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Glad that I could be of any assistance. ~Steptrip 02:25, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Oh, maybe not. I meant the bar at the top of your talk page and your userpage. Also, what is that message that says your userpage should be deleted. Computernurd22 (talk) 02:39, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

No, no, no. The thing at the top of your pages that links everything. *And what is that message that says your userpage should be deleted.* Computernurd22 (talk) 02:43, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Cremepuff

A lot of the stuff you've been writing is on the wrong pages. Take the Primary page for examle. Why did you write information about the Middle School on it? Oh, the ones you were talking about was me fixing "article" mis-spelled three times. Also, check out my edits to the Primary! Oh, and, by the way, there isn't a Luton, Iowa page. Even look. Its a red link. We have to fix that. Phew! Chiefsfan364 (talk) 23:19, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

The MfD

Since you seem to have curbed the worst excesses of your subpages, I have withdrawn part of the MfD listing Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Cremepuff222. The only things still on the chopping clock are:

I hope this experience hasn't been too traumatizing for you. I think you will come out of this a better editor and I will try to be more diplomatic in the future. Anyway, to make up for it, I leave you this:

Image:Civility barnstar.png The Civility Award For keeping your cool while facing a MfD on something you invested a lot of effort in. —dgiestc 16:43, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
I second Dgies's gracious comment. You've made big strides since the last editor conflict you were involved in, Cremepuff222, but you kept your WP:COOL. Remember that and it'll serve you well in the future. Btw, I forgot to mention that yet another way of contributing to Wikipedia is by uploading images. Free images should be uploaded to the Commons, so that any Wikipedia project, including en.wiki, can use the image. Cheers. Xiner (talk, email) 03:41, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

My RfA

Thank you for your support in my my recent RfA in which I withdrew because the oppose votes were almost equalling the supporters. I then decided to leave my account (Tellyaddict) and start fresh under a new username, however I quickly decided to reconsider after another user persuaded me not to leave the account - I am now glad I did reconsider because leaving that account and creating a new one was too hasty so I've decided to improve rather than starting again! I hope we can remain civil and that there were no negative feelings caused. Again, thanks for your support even though I withdrew it, your vote is much appreciated! Regards - Tellyaddict (Talk) 19:41, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello

Thanks for asking! I'm feeling a little better. And thanks for the compliment. I got the idea from your userpage actually. ;) How are things with you? --User:Theunicyclegirl 00:21, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, there's a ton of stuff going around here. Stomach bug, chest cold, head cold, strep ... urgh. I knew I was bound to catch something. xP Not much has been going on with me either. I've been waiting to get approved for VandalProof, but there's a mile-long waiting list. Whats up with the MfD thing anyway? --Theunicyclegirl 00:29, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
"This user has made only 83 main space edits, but over 1200 edits to their own user space." Ha! Is he/she serious? Wow! You really do spend some time on your user page! --Theunicyclegirl 00:31, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, they're my little obsession. Muahahaha! Must ... have ... more! --Theunicyclegirl 01:12, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
I have a ton also! I placed them on a subpage, as per request by Xiner. Speaking of Xiner, how are things going between you too two? (I saw the message that you left for him :)

See above edit. ;P That's me being hypercritical. I only wrote it about a minute ago. We'll see.--Theunicyclegirl 01:17, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Permanent link

It's exactly that, a permanent link! Ehm, it gives you the current version of the document, as if you'd hit the "history" tab and click on the time link of that version. Does that make sense? Xiner (talk, email) 00:38, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Not quite. A diff is a difference between two versions; "Permanent link" gives you the URL for the latest version of the article, but only if you're viewing the latest version. If you're looking at an older version, the "Permanent link" link is disabled.
To put it another way, say you want to give your friend the page Polar Bear. If you give the normal URL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_Bear), the version your friend sees may be different from the one you last saw, because edits are made all the time. So a shortcut to giving your friend the current version is to click "Permanent link". Notice the change in the URL bar of your browser. Xiner (talk, email) 01:00, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

reply

Please see Majorly's comment on your signature on my talk page. I'd suggest the following for your sig: [[User:Cremepuff222|<font color="#008000">Cremepuff222</font>]] ([[User talk:Cremepuff222|<font color="#2F4F4F">talk</font>]]) Xiner (talk, email) 01:57, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps. Please note that most people do not have signature scripts, and scripts are to be avoided anyway in signatures. Remember, we're here to edit. Fancy sigs just take longer to scroll through. Xiner (talk, email) 02:06, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

RE:Signature

It looks a bit like mine (as far as color transitions go). By the way, are you using Internet explorer (this may have caused the TWINKLE Scripts to act up) ? ~Steptrip 02:12, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Can I also change the width and colors of your headers to hide the gray lines and to make the header's color match up with the default page background ? -Steptrip 02:16, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
I apologize that I post messages in such a manner that you have to immediately come back to this page after you post a comment on my talk page, but here's the point: I have logged onto Wikipedia using IE with TWINKLE installed, and all of my scripts quit functioning, however, when I logged onto Wikipedia using Firefox all of my scripts became fully functional again because TWINKLE does not work in IE (just to be clear, I am not endorsing either web browser). -Steptrip 02:22, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

RE:Anon user

I didn't notice, as it was reverted extremely quickly. The vandal was one that I warned and reverted, so they decided to vandalize my userpage as retaliation. I looked into it, however, and I found that approx. 12 minutes after I reverted his edits, he was blocked for 24 hrs. ~Steptrip 23:43, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Can you tell him/her to ask me the next time that he/she has a question, as I am wondering if he/she even remembers that I adopted him/her due to the lack of queries (if you know his/her gender, please tell me, as I am getting tired of typing "him/her and his/her and he/she). As for the Editor review, sure I will as soon as I can find the necessary statistics. ~Steptrip 23:49, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
I'll alert him that I will put a status changer on my userpage to clear up any confusion. I've reviewed you and I hope that it was helpful. ~Steptrip 23:59, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
No problem. Do you really program in TI-BASIC and VisualBasic ? ~Steptrip 00:04, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Now you can add the Twinkle scripts back into your monobook.js :D ~Steptrip 00:20, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Ooh! I noticed you're using VandalProof and Twinkle. I applied for VandalProof but they denied me access because I'm 110 mainspace edits short. It's annoying because most of my edits are like putting speedy deletion templates on articles, but recently I've been helping out with Wikipedia:WikiProject Red Link Recovery and Wikipedia:Requested articles. These will boost my mainspace edits ... :D Sorry, I'm sort of thinking aloud (aka rambling ;P) --Theunicyclegirl 21:17, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
How would that be difficult to handle? I just ran some quick searches -- it took no time at all. -EDIT- Oh, and I'm feeling much better, thank you! --Theunicyclegirl 21:19, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Whoa! That was the weirdest thing. I was looking at your recent contributions and I could've sworn I'd seen some reverted vandalism with VP. Then I just looked a second ago -- *poof*! It's gone! Whooo! Maybe I'm just loopy xD. --Theunicyclegirl 21:22, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
!!! I never saw that edit! I don't often check my talk page's backlog so I must've missed it ... maybe he took it off himself. Wow -- I'm going to go do something about that! Thanks for the heads up! --Theunicyclegirl 21:24, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
No, I'm glad you did! It'll at least teach him a lesson to be careful what he posts, it can't be permanently deleted. --Theunicyclegirl 21:26, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Eh, I wouldn't worry about it. He really needs to be called on it. He's online right now, what do you think: click me! Scroll DOOOWWWWNNN... :D --Theunicyclegirl 21:31, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: A couple of notes...

  1. Ehm... did I? I'd be more than happy to! You're talking about the editor review, am I right?
  2. With your brother?

By the way, still no response from Bobo... --Theunicyclegirl 21:35, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Ha. I want an explanation first. It was out of line. *feels like some creepy old principal* xD --Theunicyclegirl 21:36, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
  1. Oh, I see where the confusion was! I'll do an editor review though, if you like! I may not finish it before I have to log off, though ... which will be soon.
  2. Yeah, I saw that as I was scrolling through. I assume you figured it out though, by the sheer fact that you're talking to me right now. --Theunicyclegirl 21:40, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Bye! I'm almost about to do your review! --Theunicyclegirl 21:47, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
OMG! No wonder my editor review hasn't been receiving much for review. I forgot to put the tag on! *whacks self in head* --Theunicyclegirl 21:48, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

:)

Your welcome. Just a heads up, when you leave me a message, if you see any vandalism on my talk page, revert it. There's been heavy vandalism at my talk page for 10 days! Take a look at the history! > Kamope < 00:21, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah that's why my talk page gets vandalized alot too. During that time, my userpage only got vandalized once. > Kamope < 00:33, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm going to have to take a while to think about what I am going to say! > Kamope < 00:43, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Not yet, but if he continues to vandalise, I will report him/her to WP:AIV. Also, what's the template with the If this is a shared IP address... stuff? > Kamope < 01:16, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Oh. Also, I just reported him at WP:AIV. > Kamope < 01:19, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
That user just got blocked for a day. > Kamope < 01:21, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Hi, do you think when warning a user with a warning template that has no image, do you think it would be a good idea to add an exclamation like this?:

> Kamope < 01:32, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Ronald Reagan

Hi Cremepuff! I noticed in the history of Ronald Reagan that you removed some vandalism on 18 March 2007, but it didn't seem to have gone away. So, I re-removed it for you. Hope I didn't step on your toes, just wanted that off the page! Thanks! Literacola 01:53, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Ok actually, now the history doesn't show my edit at all! Gahh! Oh well, at least it's fixed now. :) Literacola 01:57, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello!

I made the Luton page, finally! Check it out by clicking here! Chiefsfan364 (talk) 02:01, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Why, yes. Google does have its atvantages. I am such a good speller, arn't I? Chiefsfan364 (talk) 02:09, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

?

You seem kind of stunned that I did something worthwhile on Wiki. What's up with that? Chiefsfan364 (talk) 02:13, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

I had to do that with some of the information, but otherwise, most of it I wrote. Should I make all of the text original? (but still acurate)Chiefsfan364 (talk) 02:17, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Again, google does have its avantages :) Chiefsfan364 (talk) 02:21, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Okay. Enough with the sarcasm. Chiefsfan364 (talk) 02:23, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Bye. I feel kind of down that all your replys seem negative. Chiefsfan364 (talk) 02:24, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Your userpage

Looks good. One of these days I'll copyedit it - you can revert anything you don't like. One thing I'd change is removing the empty spaces around User:Cremepuff222/Menu. Xiner (talk, email) 02:45, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

When your homepage stabilizes, I can delete its history for you, and your edit count will go down immediately (the old versions would still be available to admins - I'd basically delete your page and restore the last version). Xiner (talk, email) 02:50, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
It's perfectly legal so long as you're not doing it to hide anything, not including lowering your user space editcount. I once got it done via WP:ANI, but most admins are too busy with real/important stuff to do it often. Of course, if you do do it too often, someone will complain that you're using your time on trivial stuff. Xiner (talk, email) 02:58, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
No problemo. Xiner (talk, email) 03:02, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: Signature madness

Mhmm. I think I mentioned that to him. --Theunicyclegirl 17:17, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

RE:You're back

My trip (pardon the bad pun) was AWESOME!! My group got filmed on the Today Show in Rockefeller Plaza and saw The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. In addition, we got to spend 4 hours shopping on Fifth Avenue (the Apple store and FAO Schwarz). The only bad thing was that it snowed like there was no tomorrow, there were very strong winds, and I stepped (pardon this bad pun) in slush many times, and I couldn't find a taxi, so I had to walk through it. All in all, it was a great trip (how many bad puns am I going to make), despite the inclement weather. ~Steptrip 18:13, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Funny ... on a completely different subject, have I finished fixing all of / do you like the new userspace headers? ~Steptrip 18:21, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
I never bothered to look at it on IE, so I thought that it was coding problems. Is there anything else that you want me to look at / fix? ~Steptrip 18:28, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, I was just going to leave a message about that. Two more things:
  1. I'm sorry that a family member was blocked indefinitely from editing, have you followed Xiner's advice and had a talk with him and your parents?
  2. What Operating System do you use?

    ~Steptrip 18:46, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
My friends at school brag to me about vandalizing Wikipedia, and frankly, it takes me a lot of self control not to tell them off. Concerning the OS issue, I was wondering because you have a message that says "Best viewed in Apple Safari or Mozilla Firefox"; how do you know that your userpage looks good in Safari if you can't run it on Windows XP? ~Steptrip 18:54, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Not at all ... from whom did you get your design layout? ~Steptrip 18:59, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

MotD

I saw the link on my editor review so I decided to give it a try. It's cool! I liked the chewing gum one. :D No suggestions other than what I left there. How've things been on Wikipedia? Learning lots, I hope. --Theunicyclegirl 19:42, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

By the way, do you have Anti-Vandal and/or Popups? I got them both yesterday and I'm completely in love. :D --Theunicyclegirl 19:42, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, I'm working on an image for Wikipedia. Forgot to check for messages xD --Theunicyclegirl 19:57, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
I don't mind continuing. But if you don't that's fine. --Theunicyclegirl 20:03, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Fanks :D -- Theunicyclegirl 20:27, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

A good question

Unfortunately, your edits to deleted pages/images won't show up in your contribs. Xiner (talk, email) 20:05, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

It's talking about thge number of pages you've edited. Xiner (talk, email) 20:11, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

No, the term "unique" refers to the number of distinct pages you've edited. For example, if you made 10 edits to Polar Bear, then you've edited one unique page, but if you made five edits each to Polar Bear and Polar bear cub, then you've edited two unique pages. Hope that clarifies. Xiner (talk, email) 20:21, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

I could delete and restore User:Cremepuff222/User Page if you want. Xiner (talk, email) 22:02, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

I wouldn't mind seeing that. :) Xiner (talk, email) 22:06, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Your user page edit count should've gone down by some 628 edits. Xiner (talk, email) 22:32, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Saber girl08 04:55, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you!

Thank you very much for the barnstar! It's great to have that encouragement to keep going. Thanks again. --Tewy 02:24, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

I know how you feel. I just spent who knows how long moving about forty mottoes from Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Approved (which I see has filled back up again) to the schedule page. --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 02:27, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes, it's very time consuming with the sheer number of mottos. --Tewy 02:38, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
