Cretien van Campen, Ph.D., studied psychology, philosophy and cultural studies at the universities of Nijmegen and Utrecht in the Netherlands. His master thesis and Ph.D. thesis were devoted to Gestalt theories of perception in pychology, aesthetics and history of art. He published a number of articles and a book on pictorial illusions in science and the arts. In between he traveled in various Asian countries, published articles on culure and cognition, and entered health care research. Since the mid-nineties he is studying phenomena of synaesthesia in collaboration with artists and scientists. In collaboration with artist Clara Froger he developed the Netherlands Color Synesthesia method. Together they organize synesthesia days in Holland. Crétien edits in cooperation with Greta Berman (New York) and Bulat Galeyev (Kazan, Russia) the Leonardo online bibliography Synesthesia in Science and Art. Currently is affilated as a senior researcher in Health & Care at the Social and Cultural Planning Office in the Netherlands. He he writes and presents on the subject of synesthesia on several national and international occasions.
