Crestone is clearly the anglicized spelling of the augmentative form of Spanish, CRESTA, crest, i.e. cresto'n, "BIG CREST" which certainly describes the high country above Crestone town (KitCarson, Crestone Pk, Crestone Needle).

Perhaps, but I find it's derivation from Crestonia more persuasive, consider Ophir. Fred Bauder 01:24, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
