Cretecism is a progressive metal band from Crete that was the first to combine traditional cretan music with progressive rock. It achieved very good comments in the Greek Metal Hammer magazine taking a 9/10 rating. Leader of the band is Giannis Avgoustinakis who was one of the first people to bring rock culture to Ierapetra of Crete in the early 80s. The band has a lot of influences from the American band Dream Theater. It is believed that Cretecism have sold 150 albums all over the world. Giannis Avgoustinakis have taken up lately a DJing career in Hersonissos, Malia and other tourist resorts of Crete. Giannis Avgoustinakis if famous in his city for his fine humor and his neurotic character. His nickname in Ierapetra is Woody Allen.

Currently he is working to publish his work to the broader audience and to sell his work from iTunes and similar music stores and services.
