How do I put userboxes? I know the codes for them, but how do I put it above my text?
- I would encourage you to simply write a couple of paragraphs about yourself on your user page. The use of userboxes (other than those identifying encyclopedic skills such as languages, and participation in Wikipedia projects) are discouraged on Wikipedia. Kelly Martin (talk) 04:04, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
Ok. ;)
Please help! I need to know what licensing I should use on this image I found on the net:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Cam_brainard.jpg
- This image should be labeled as {{promotional}}. At the moment is is an orphan, and will be deleted as such in due course. Kelly Martin (talk) 23:48, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
Will I be able to reset the License?
[edit] Cam Brainard
Some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Cam Brainard may not be sufficiently well-known to merit articles of their own. The Wikipedia community welcomes newcomers, and encourages them to become Wikipedians. On Wikipedia, each user is entitled to a user page in which they can describe themselves, and this article's content may be incorporated into that page. However, to merit inclusion in the encyclopedia proper, a subject must be notable. We encourage you to write or improve articles on notable subjects. Nationalparks 23:55, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- Turns out this guy is notable, but from the article, no one could tell. Please expand the article. Thanks! Nationalparks 23:58, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
Expanded the article. :) Cracker017 00:07, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
I need to place this titlecard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Krusty_Towers.jpg) onto the Krusty Towers article in the box but don't know how. please help. thanks.
- Hello, simply use [[Image:Krusty Towers.jpg|thumb|Insert your caption here]] where you want to insert the image. There are several formats to this image tag, so be sure to check out Wikipedia:Picture tutorial for a complete introduction on placing images in articles. If you need any more help, please feel free to ask again. Cheers, Tangotango 05:53, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
I looked in the picture tutorial, but it didn't have what I was finding for. What I meant by "box" was the thing on the side that had the episode name, guess starred, etc.
- Ah right. In that case, simply insert a new line with the code |Image = [[Image:Krusty_Towers.jpg|120px]] (adjust "120px") anywhere inside the lines of code beginning from {{SpongeBob episode | and ending with |}. Hope this helps. -- Tangotango 06:06, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Cool! Thank you very much!! Cracker017 06:14, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Helpme Spongedude
Sorry for doing this again once more, but what are the {{{Director (Animation}}} for on the SpongeBob SquarePants episode articles on the box that has the list of the directors and such? I want to add this info, but sadly, I cannot. If possible, please tell me how to. Thanks.
- When you see the triple braces, { { { etc, in an article it means that that parameter is missing from the infobox. So if it says {{{Director (Animation)}}} you should place "Director (Animation) =" in the infobox at the top of the article in the edit window (you can put it in any order, but see the template for the preferred order). You don't need to fill in who the person is, just place "Director (Animation) =" and it won't appear in the article. If you still need help use helpme again, and provide an example article.--Commander Keane 22:15, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Would there be any other tools to revert vandalism? I really want to use VandalProof, but I cannot since I don't have more than 250 edits. So, I've been using VandalFighter, which is good, but it can be tedious, though. VandalProof is really neat, because it has a built in browser into it.
- Hi, you can try User:Lupin/Anti-vandal tool, which is a neat tool that works inside your web browser. (it's recommeded you use a tab-based browser like Mozilla Firefox or Opera (web browser), though). You may also like to seek information on the Counter-Vandalism Unit. If you need any more help, feel free to ask again. Cheers, Tangotango 07:20, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
I just put some scripts in my monobook so I could rollback but I always get error messages like this: Please wait, reverting edits by Talk... Getting article history (/w/index.php?title=Bitch&action=history&limit=50)... Error: Last editor is 210.86.90.225, not Talk!
Is there any cause for this? Cracker017 08:04, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
- Is the user displayed always "Talk"? If it is, then this may be a problem with the script. Instead of directly loading another user's monobook.js, you may like to copy-paste scripts yourself from the list at WP:JS; this may fix the problem you are experiencing. Cheers, Tangotango 08:11, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sponge Bob: Chimps Ahoy
Like you did on Chimps Ahoy you put in the Edit Summary- Added Period. Instead of doing that click minor edit which is below the edit summary which means you are doing minor things instead of major. Minor edits are used to fix grammer and spelling. In the edit summary an m will come out so other users know that it is a minor edit. Just wanted to let you know. Best Regards, ForestH2
Ok, will do. Cracker017 15:24, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
How do I reset my monobook? It seems the stuff I have put there has integrated into Wikipedia. Cracker017 15:24, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Just remove all of the content from your monobook and then refresh the page. Mozilla/Safari/Konqueror: hold down Shift while clicking Reload (or press Ctrl-Shift-R), IE: press Ctrl-F5, Opera: press F5." --Pilot|guy 15:27, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] RFA
I wanted to know about RFA Nomination success as adminnistrator. I think you ought to delete that and reput up at the end of May because you only have 32 edits at this time. Once the number of your edits increase you can be nominated for adminship. At this time you can but as you only have 32 edits you most likely will not succeed. ForestH2
You have 32 edits as per Cracker017's edits. ForestH2
Oh, I didn't know that. But how do I remove the RFA Nomination success as admnistrator?
[edit] Need help on determining copyright on this image
I found this image of Eric Prydz: www.clubnewsparis.com/images/djs/Eric_Prydz.jpg at http://www.clubnewsparis.com/vosdjs.php and was going to upload it to put in the Eric Prydz article, but I don't know what the license could be. Help appreciated. Cracker017 01:50, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
Unless you can get the website to release it as public domain i don't believe you can use the photo on wikipedia, perhaps fair use but you require a fair use rationale to do so. Mike (T C) 02:19, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Everything is underlined
Why is a link to an article (such as those on the front page) have an underline? I just noticed this when I logged in. Cracker017 18:20, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
Never mind, it went away.
- Hi! I figured I'd answer your question anyway. This is a common little glitch in Wikipedia, where links become underlined (or not underlined, depending on your preferences). This is typically because your browser failed to load one of the stylesheets Wikipedia uses. If it happens again, it can typically be fixed by following the instructions at Wikipedia:Bypass your cache. Hope this helps, and let us know if you have any more questions about Wikipedia! EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 18:34, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My IP has been banned from the IRC chat
I've been trying to join the Wikipedia IRC chat, but can't connect because it says my IP is banned. P.S.: What do you think of my contributions so far? Cracker017 19:57, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A quick question with VOA's [Non-admin RC Patrol JS]
Is Lupin's vandal tool (the one that is included in VOA's [Non-admin RC Patrol JS]) supposed to let you use the rollback? It is included the script, but is Lupin's rollback feature only going to work with admins? Why won't it work with the rollback feature that was included in the script? Also the warn feature. Sorry if I asked too many questions already. Cracker017 00:54, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not exactly sure what VoA has got installed there, but the rollback javascript will let non-admins rollback. There are a lot of separate tools VoA has installed, including User:Lupin/Anti-vandal tool, Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups, and godmode-light. Maybe speak to VoA about it, that's all I know.--Commander Keane 01:03, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to VandalProof!
Thank you for your interest in VandalProof, Cracker017! You have now been added to the list of authorized users, so if you haven't already, simply download and install VandalProof from our main page. [edit] Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi
Hey, why did you revert my update of the page?
Sorry, I thought you were page blanking, since most of the info from the history page was deleted. Sorry. Cracker017 00:09, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
> Oh, I see. I just re-organized stuff and put more info to make it more comprehensive. :)
Ok, I see.
> Is it possible for you to undo that revert? I dunno how to go back. Thanks.
Yeah.
[edit] VandalProof 1.2 Now Available
After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:14, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Kirk Fogg.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Kirk Fogg.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 16:48, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Kirk Fogg.jpg
This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:Kirk Fogg.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 16:48, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Kirk Fogg.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Kirk Fogg.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 16:48, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Jean-Claude Ades.jpeg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Jean-Claude Ades.jpeg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
