From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Crazyracing Kartrider (Korean:크레이지레이싱 카트라이더) is a South Korean online multiplayer racing game, developed by Nexon, which earns revenues by selling virtual items for the game through its website, including different types of car and spraypaint. Such cars include fantasy and real-life models of cars, with Nexon's collaboration with companies such as MINI (Korea). The Chinese version of the game is known as PopKart. There are an estimated 15,000,000 users of the Korean version of Kartrider, and over 25% of South Koreans have played the game at least once.

[edit] Features

Players may compete as individuals or as teams. This game features the same cel-shaded super deformed characters as Crazy Arcade and includes representations of the following:

[edit] Types of Play

There are three game types in Kartrider to choose between: Item (Korean:아이템), Speed (Korean:스피드) and Flag (Korean:플래그).

Item Game

This is a race which has floating power-ups (displayed as balloons, boxes and similar objects) at various points in the race which the racer may collect as he/she goes through the course. These powerups include: Nitrous acceleration boost, water bomb, reversi, and missile.

Speed Game

In this type of race there are no power-ups. Players may however earn a nitrous acceleration boost should they drift-drive enough during the race.

Flag Game

This mode in Kartrider is a capture-the-flag style game in which the player who holds the flag for longest time wins. The other players may either collide with the flag-carrier or collect items from various places in the map (in particular missile) which would cause the flag to be dropped from the flag-carrier if used correctly.

[edit] Courses

Tracks are divided into Speed tracks, Item tracks and Flag tracks, and are based on particular themes.

These themes include:

  • Desert
  • Factory
  • Forest
  • Ice
  • Mine
  • Village

[edit] License System

Riders start as Junior and then advance various ranks by attaining licenses from completing training courses. The licenses obtainable include:

  • Rookie
  • L3
  • L2
  • L1
  • P (License stage is still under development by Nexon)

[edit] Controversy

The game has attracted controversy for its many similarities to Nintendo's Super Mario Kart series. Of course this is besides the fact numerous other racing games have "many similarities" to Mario Kart.
