[edit] Description
Intelligent and crafty, he is often willing to turn his hand to scams and manipulation to get his way.
[edit] Storylines
[edit] Relationship with Abby Davies
Craig began the show by using his intelligence to manipulate Hollyoaks Villagers and to pull a variety of scams. He also fell for older girl Abby Davies as she led him on, making him believe that she fancied him. However, nothing happened in the relationship after Craig discovered that she was using him to make her ex boyfriend Lee Hunter jealous.
[edit] Relationship with Natalie Osborne
Craig also has a supportive side which he used when his sister Steph was attacked and was left with epilepsy by Toby Mills. Craig supported her through this and was always there for his family when they needed him as they struggled through their debts. Craig’s love life had improved as he fell for the charms of another older girl, Natalie Osborne who managed to seduce him. But she wanted to keep their relationship a secret and she used him to lose her virginity. She then started to lose intrest in him but was taught a lesson by Craig's sisters Debbie and Steph who had both had an intense dislike of Natalie since she arrived. Natalie then left Hollyoaks and Craige behind.
[edit] Father problems
However, Craig had another huge shock, which left him devastated as his father left the family after having an affair with a younger girl who was having his child. Craig had been left heartbroken and found it difficult to recover from this. But slowly he came to terms with what has happened and supported his mother, Frankie, who was also in shock. After that He became fiercely protective of his family and friends. The Deans then moved into The Dog in the pond pub with Jack Osborne and he and Frankee started dating. Craig was shocked when Johno returned to the village and told his family that his girlfriend had left him for someone else and that he realised he missed his family. Craig then found out that Johnno was lying and that he had left his girlfriend and newborn son after he decided that he didn't want to be a father again at his age. Craig, Jake and Steph were disgusted by his behaviour and that he shouldn't leave his child without a father, or his girlfriend without financial support.
[edit] Relationship with Darlene Taylor
He then started a relationship with Darlene Taylor and supported her after her step-brother Justin Burton and pushed her through a window and later when her brother Ali was killed by a car. Meanwhile Frankee and Jack got married and Darlene delt with her fellings by making up claims about his family making passes at her. This lead to her step-mother Liz Burton throwing her out of her house and Darline living with the Dean/Osborne clan. Darline started flirting with Craigs step-brother Darren and then telling Craig that Darren was the one suducing her. Craig then walking in on her having sex with Darren: an event Darren orchestrated to prove what type of person Darlene was to Craig.
[edit] Restarting School
Craig had been hoping to escape Hollyoaks village after completing his A levels. He had been offered a conditional place at a university in Ireland, but after failing to get the right grades he decided to repeat a year at Hollyoaks Comprehensive. Meanwhile Jake accidently ran over Diane Valentine causing her son Sonny to start bullying him at school. But through the bullying Craig made new friends in John-Paul McQueen, Sarah Barnes and Hannah Ashworth. John-Paul became Craigs best friend and helped him stand up to Sonny. Whilst Sarah became his girlfriend and Hannah started dating John-Paul. His relationship with Sarah became rocky after Rhys Ashworth (Sarah's ex) talked to Craig about Sarah being a slut, they had a big argument before resolving their differences.
[edit] Friendship with John-Paul McQueen
More recently, John-Paul split-up with his girlfriend Hannah Ashworth, blaming it on fancying someone else that was mistakely believed to be Sarah. When Craig caught Sarah talking to John-Paul, he blew off and dumped Sarah calling her a slag and a slapper. When John-Paul confessed it wasn't Sarah who he fancied, Craig set on a mission to get Sarah back. They did get back together but at Hannah's 18th birthday party, he caught a drunken Sarah kissing Rhys. John-Paul broke the fight that ensued apart and blurted out that Sarah was not good enough for him. This seemingly came out of the blue for Craig and followed John-Paul outside to demand what he meant by that. John-Paul confessed that he said it because he is jealous of her and he is in love with Craig. Craig didn't see any of this coming and was very shocked to lose his girlfriend and to find out his best friend was in love with him on the same night. He managed to get over what John-Paul said as long as he doesn't mention it again and forgave Sarah for kissing Rhys. However it is hinted that he might have ulterior motives for getting back with Sarah. He and John-Paul kissed at the school dance, causing a stir as Hannah sees them.
[edit] Losing a friend
Craig bullying by Sonny got worse when the whole school found out about what had happened, but unlike John-Paul he insists that he did not instigate the kiss and is not gay. He is furious with John-Paul's coming out in front of their classmates, since by association people think he must be too. In order to get on Sonny's good side during a five-a-side match, he repeatedly smashes into John-Paul, eventually culminating in a beating (to Sonny's glee) where Craig calls John-Paul a 'queer'. After punching Craig back, John-Paul runs off tearfully. Later on, Craig apologises to John-Paul but John-Paul does not accept it. Craig asks John-Paul "why did you try it with me, did you think I was gay?" John-Paul takes no notice and walks off.
It has been rumoured online [1] that Craig will have feelings for John Paul McQueen, with them eventually embarking "on a relationship that will blow their friendships apart." This has not been confirmed directly by Channel 4 or Hollyoaks but looks very likely, especially with the introduction of new character Spike, who it is believed has a relationship with John Paul which with bring our Craig's jealous instincts and force him to confront his true feelings for John Paul.
[edit] Fan Reaction
Craig's current storyline involving John-Paul McQueen has caused many fans to question his sexuality, with opinions ranging from Craig being completely heterosexual and just feeling awkward about being with his best friend who loves him to believing Craig is gay and just is not ready to accept it yet. Craig has also been nicknamed 'Cardigan Craig' by members of the Digital Spy forums, due to his frequent appearances in slightly less-than-macho looking cardigans. This is adding further fuel to the argument that Craig is not completely heterosexual.
