[edit] Plot Summary
In the opening scene of the episode, Hilda and Talho playfully bicker on the bridge while Mischa lifts the visitor ban on Eureka. While the children visit their foster mother, Mischa and Hilda quietly discuss Renton's recent departure.
In the next scene, Renton aimlessly lifts along a desolate highway. A series of short clips show that he travels for some time to a city, and as he is sleeping on a bench, his belongings (sans lift board and Eureka's photograph) are stolen by a homeless person. After wandering the city aimlessly, he sleeps in a public park, and the intense bass of a rave wakes him up the next day. Although he is startled, he begins to dance to the music himself. He meets the gaze of a man dancing on the stage—Charles Beams. Although the older man teases Renton a bit, the younger boy finds that he doesn't mind, as he had been alone for some time. Not long after, a tectonic shift disrupts the party as several mushroom-like formations emerge from the ground and a number of pile bankers are shot out. He is rescued from a falling banker by Ray Beams.
Back aboard the Gekko, Gidget visits Eureka with some "feminine essentials". Gidget recounts the episode's opening scene, where she felt the distance of age between herself and Talho and Hilda. She tells Eureka that she can talk to her about anything. Eureka admits that she wants to see Renton, but is afraid to see him at the same time, and Gidget tells her that she's in love.
Renton is given a tour of the Beams' carrier ship, the Swan. He studies Charles' collection of unorthodox boards, and Charles shares his philosophy of doing what feels right. He shows Renton his Spearhead LFO, and though Renton is impressed, he is confused by the lack of a lift board. After a call for a mission reaches Charles, he launches with Renton in the cockpit. Charles efficiently dispatches a band of thieves, finishing the leader with a rifle shot.
In the closing scene, Dominic manages to find Axel's wrecked garage in Bellforest.
[edit] Trivia
- The man who asked for a favor from the Beams, Lloyd Wright (whom Charles calls a pusher), is a reference to architect Frank Lloyd Wright. A house strongly inspired by the architect's designs appears in "Opposite View".
