Cowslip (Watership Down)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cowslip is a character in Watership Down. He is a rabbit and a member of an unamed warren, that which is referred to as "Cowslip's Warren". He leads and welcomes Hazel's band of rabbits to this Warren. He assures them that he and his tribe are peaceful and friendly to interact with. Other than the fact that he is not the leader of Cowslip Warren, not much other information is given about him. His group of people are being harvested for humans, and it seems that his motives in leading Hazel's followers are to make his warren seem bigger: his people are constantly snared, but they stay because they are well-fed. They pretend that everything is perfectly alright in their warren and silence anyone who asks where anyone or anything is, because to do so would be to face the brutal reality of their situation. Neither Cowslip nor his people appreciate stories about El-ahrairah, because, as Fiver points out, they have forgotten the proper ways of rabbitry.
