Talk:Covered smut

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I agree. When I created the Common bunt (wheat) article I must have either not seen this article or had assumed that it had to do with covered smut of barley caused by Ustilago hordei. I realize that 'covered smut' is another name for 'common bunt', but from my experience, I had always heard referred to as common bunt.

I am coming to realise that nearly every disease of every crop is known by different names in different countries, none of which are familiar to the other. For this reason, I believe that common names should be quoted as links on a main article relating to the latin name and technical description.

I agree with the need to merge, but care needs to be taken to this last point.Tomcrisp7 00:59, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

I've started an article called Guidelines for plant disease articles where I would like to begin discussing and addressing this and other issues that pertain to plant disease articles. The article that I've started is not particularly well written, and certainly contains my biases, however, I wanted to get something out there and something central where we can all discuss these issues and come up with some guidelines.Somanypeople 01:31, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

I've moved the guideline/style guide Style guide for plant disease articles to my user subspace, because I guess I put in the wrong place and will it be deleted soon. Somanypeople 00:31, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
