Covenant Awards

The Covenant Awards are handed out annually by GMA Canada which is the Gospel Music Association of Canada (formerly known as CGMA). Created in 1974, the organization is a not for profit organization whose mission is to promote the growth and ministry of Christian music arts in Canada. GMA Canada works to raise the profile and interaction of Christian artists, songwriters, producers, promoters and others working in Christian music with media, retailers, distributors and church leadership. GMA Canada is committed to nurturing and developing its members through educational programs as well as celebrating outstanding achievements and standards of excellence in all areas and genres of Canadian Gospel music. To this end, GMA Canada is the presenter of the annual Covenant Awards,Canada’s national awards for the Canadian Gospel Music industry. The Covenant Awards are held annually in cities across Canada with the 2007 awards scheduled to be handed out Oct 24-26th in Calgary as part of GMA Week. GMA Canada is associated with GMA in the United States. Awards will be handed out in over 40 categories (see previous winner's list below). The organization releases an annual CD collection of songs from the winners and nominees through CMC Distribution.The 28th Annual collection (released January 2007) featured songs by Brian Doerksen, Starfield, Tara Dettman, Ali Matthews, Amanda Falk and more. The business of the association is conducted by a Board of Directors that come from its membership.
