Courtesy blanking is the practice of blanking closed deletion debates in order to avoid potential harm to the subject of the debate, typically an individual or organization. This includes privacy protection as well as avoiding embarrassment due to opinions expressed during these debates, which sometimes include unflattering terms such as "vanity", "spam", "non-notable", or "vanityspamcruftisement" or worse such as personal information or heated accusations. It is usually done at the request of the person in question, however any user may do this if the contents of a AfD discussion would be best not indexed by search engines. The debate remains accessible in the edit history, but the "front page" is blank and thus content that offends the subject does not appear in search engines. In extreme cases (Libel) the history may be deleted.

[edit] Usage
