Couture-sur-Loir is a small commune of about 450 inhabitants situated in the north west of the Loir-et-Cher departement 33 kilometres to the west of Vendome.

It is first referred to as Villas culturas in a charter of the ninth century bishop of Le Mans,Saint Aldric (earlier references are doubtless fictitious).

Renowned for the Renaissance chateau of La Possoniere, birthplace of the poet Ronsard, the village also possesses an Angevin style church dedicated to Saints Gervase and Protase.
