"Counting the Beat" is a single by New Zealand rock band The Swingers released in 1981 from their album of the same name, Counting the Beat.

The single was performed by a New Zealand band, The Swingers with frontman Phil Judd from Split Enz. The song is considered a one hit wonder. It is well known for its catchy beat and memorable music video. The music track was also featured in the advertisements for Kmart during the 90s. It has been included on an episode of 20 to 1, the topic was "One hit wonders" and it held its place at number 13.

The song was No.1 in Australia in March of 1981.
