Council of Science Editors

The Council of Science Editors (CSE) is the organization that publishes Scientific Style and Format: The CBE Manual for Authors, Editors, and Publishers (6th edition published in 1994 under ISBN 0-521-47154-0), an influential style guide for scientific papers. The latest (7th) edition entitled Scientific Style and Format: The CSE Manual for Authors, Editors, and Publishers (ISBN 0-9779665-0-X; 680 pages, 130 tables, 13 figures) was published in June 2006.
Formerly known as the Council of Biology Editors (CBE), in 1999 the organization voted to change its name to Council of Science Editors. The change became effective on January 1, 2000.
The CBE was established in 1957 by the National Science Foundation and the American Institute of Biological Sciences.
