The Council for Industry and Higher Education is a non-governmental organisation in the United Kingdom, founded in 1986, that carries out research into the interactions between industry and higher education and makes related policy submissions to the government.[1] Since 1997, it has been a company limited by guarantee[2] and a registered charity.[3]
The Council is funded by its member organisations and by external organisations. The funding sources include universities, other organisations and companies,[1][4][5] resulting in a gross income of about £300 000 per annum.[3] Each member organisation appoints one person to the Council, and seven of those people are currently Trustees.

[edit] Activities
The Council has two principal activities: carrying out or sponsoring relevant research and making policy submissions to government. It organises it research into six key themes.
The key themes are: the competitiveness of UK higher education, its expansion, the leadership and governance questions common to industry and higher education, research and knowledge transfer, employability and entrepreneurship and widening participation.[6] There are two additional significant projects. One deals with ethics of higher education[7] and the other has developed, or is developing, 'employability profiles' for each of the subject groups available for study at University level.[8]
The Council publishes the findings of its work.
