Category:County Templates
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The templates described here are used to create table headings and rows in a table dealing with lists of counties in the United States. Some templates are used for different tables. The usage generally allows table rows to take one line in page code instead of two lines. It also makes fairly uniform tables.
For the table headings, use either
- Template:CountyTableStart if the table only lists the county name, and optionally the county seat.
- Template:County3TableStart if the table lists year the county is founded and its history as well as the county name (and optionally, the county seat). This is usually followed by Template:County3Top, but when you want to define a reference explaining the purpose of the FIPS county code, you have to include the references manually (and not use the County3Top macro), because <ref> references do not seem to be included on a macro call.
For the individual rows of the table, you have the following choices
- Template:County1 is used where there is only the county name for each row in the table. It is used in combination with Template:CountyTableStart to begin the table.
- Template:County3 is used where each row consists of the county name, year of founding and some history. It is used in combination with Template:County3TableStart and Template:County3Top
In both cases the macro optionally allows specification of the county seat as a link in parenthesis to the right of the name of the county, and the parameter "Type=" is available where the name is something other than a county, such as a Parish in Louisiana or a Borough or Census area in Alaska.
