In wireless networking paladir is a linux based distribution providing wireless networking among wireless nodes. It is based on GNU GPL and BSD licensed software. It is designed from scratch by its developers cyfex, sakis, thanasys for the purposes of the wireless network wthess in Thessaloniki.

Paladir consists of a set of bash scripts that have not been borrowed from any other linux distribution. The main advantage of paladir is that of the capability that one can alternate its features, so as their incompatibilities can be handled. This is done by altering just a line of a configuration file. That is different from an operating system that comprises specific features.

Except of the operating system that runs on the wireless network nodes, there is a script subsystem, that in cooperation with the project management software, Aegis, takes on creating the image files for the nodes of the wireless network with great ease.

Paladir, with the upcoming publication of its first edition, hopes to become a worthy alternative to commercial non-open source solutions Mikrotik and Icarus.
