Costa Valle Imagna is a commune counting 620 inhabitants in the province of Bergamo, in Lombardy. It is bounded by other communes of Sant'Omobono Imagna.
The village seems to have been populated ammong the whole year from 1300 AD. Before this date it was, probably, just a place of pasture occupated only during the summer. In effects Costa's invernal climate is very cold, the town is north-east oriented and because of it Costa was appelled "la nevera della Valle imagna" that means "Valle Imagna's warehouse of snow" in the local slang.
For communication reasons the Town has been longer linked to San Martino, Almenno San Salvatore and La Piana than the rest of the Imagna's Valley.
With Venice Republic annexation of Bergamo's province (1428), the Town found a new neibourghood location. Serenissima and Ducato di Milano borders were closer than before. The proof of that is the slang of the Town. The translation in Italian of bir is pigs, but the usage of this therm in Costa indicates foreigners, this probably has connections to king's men sent from Venice to patrolling Venice Republic borders.
From the age of counter-reformation a bishop dispatch deploring the bad status of Town's church cause the village's poverty. Costa on top of that was affect by the plague also written in Manzoni's novells on 1630, as demonstrated by the finding of a potter's field.
From the start of XX century Costa Valle Imagna is renowned as a summer resort. The Town rises on the high slope just on the right of Imagna's valley, from Costa it's possible to view a wide landscape and looking to the north it's possible to see on Resegone mountain. Reaching Forcella and Pertüs' pass (1186mt) the view is extended on the full Brianza and, in the clearest sky days, it's even visible Milano.
There's still few persons who remember that during the II world war from Pertüs pass some ground fires were visible by night, that were air raids from allied on Milano.
The patron saint is San Rocco, celebrated on 16th august with the procession, fireworks and dances in the pubblic square.
