[edit] Description
Cosmo and Wanda are the married fairy godparents of Timmy Turner, the main character on the show. They disguise themselves in public, and they are distinguished from each other by their coloring; light pink for Wanda, and light green for Cosmo (unless they are transformed into goldfish, in which case they are orange and their eyes become the corresponding colors). This also applies to most of their other disguises (which all have faces) yet none of the other characters usually suspect a thing. However, several characters have noticed this, but play it no heed. When Cosmo was disguised as a piece of cake, Timmy's dad opted to eat it, only stopping because Cosmo's screams made him lose his appetite, and another time when Timmy's dad, going through a mid-life crisis, believed he was hallucinating that his towels had faces. Vicky also noticed Cosmo and Wanda as squirrels, and remarked later in her diary that the "green squirrel" was cute, accompanied with a drawing of a green squirrel wearing Cosmo's standard shirt-and-tie. Their most common disguise is as goldfish who live in a bowl on Timmy's nightstand. Their castle inside the fishbowl had been featured several times in the series; later in the series it was revealed that it has many confusing hallways and doors like a real castle. In the earlier episodes, Cosmo and Wanda were more of a team, with both acting playfully daffy. In later episodes, Cosmo has been the stupid one and Wanda the smarter of the two. Cosmo often comes off as oblivious to others' feelings and safety, and he often undermines his wife's attempts to protect Timmy from his own naïve and potentially dangerous wishes (however A.J. described Cosmo, when he was disguised as Timmy's dad, as being way smarter looking than Timmy's dad). Also because of his extreme stupidity, and the fact that he has a wand, he has been the cause of numerous disasters from the sinking of Atlantis (nine times actually) to the explosion of Mount Vesuvius, and the corruption of St. Pittsburg. (His explanation for this was that he wished to make Atlantis cleaner, Pompeii and Herculean warmer, and St. Pittsburg more industrialized. Despite this and the fact that they quarrel from time to time, he loves Wanda deeply. Although she is more rational of the two, Wanda reluctantly grants even Timmy's stupidest wishes. She loves Cosmo despite his bad characteristics because (in the series' earlier episodes at least) he's good-hearted, and he occasionally makes her laugh. The only thing that can distract her is her addiction to chocolate, which is mentioned in several episodes and has been exploited by both Timmy and Norm to get her to do what they want. She dislikes Mama Cosma (Cosmo's mother), although Wanda's compassion and integrity once lead her to help Cosmo care for Mama Cosma when she is coping with an illness.
[edit] Fairy family
[edit] Mama Cosma
Cosmo's overprotective mother, Mama Cosma, is a domineering mother hen who smothers her son Cosmo and greatly dislikes Wanda. Cosmo, who had been working as a waiter at a local diner at the time, fell in love with and married Wanda, but told his mother that he was going out for some milk. By the episode "Apartnership!", Cosmo & Wanda have been married for 9,895 years, and yet they still never had kids of their own. Cosmo's father, Papa Cosmo, appeared in one cartoon when Cosmo (as a baby) accidentally turned him into a fly. He never reappeared since, probably since he was still a fly. (In the flashback sequence, Mama Cosma was taller and thinner.) Mama Cosma calls Cosmo "Cosmo-lo-lo" among many other names and bakes "I-rather-dislike-Wanda" cookies (cookies with Wanda's face on them with a pink "NO" sign [Ø]) ("Apartnership!"). Her reason for her disliking Wanda was revealed in the first episode in which she appeared, stating that "It's not Wanda. I'd dislike anyone who took my Cosmo-lo-lo away." Unfortunately for Wanda, this means Mama Cosma will never stop pestering her. And more 4 episodes, "This is Your Wish", "Where's Wanda?", "Big Wanda" and "Presto Change-O".
[edit] Big Daddy
Wanda's father, Big Daddy, is head of the Fairy World mafia. He currently holds a monopoly on the garbage disposal business. In an episode where Big Daddy is kidnapped, Wanda has to take over the family business. (The kidnapper is later found out to be Mama Cosma.) Big Daddy hates Cosmo due to his stupidity and the fact that he rarely listens to Wanda, which parallels Mama Cosma's hatred of Wanda. Despite their hate for their children's spouses, they are in love with each other. In the episode "Big Wanda," Big Daddy is seen sleeping with his stuffed horse head, Mr. Nay-Nay, an obvious reference to the decapitated horse's head seen in The Godfather.
[edit] Blonda
Also, Wanda has an "identical yet somehow hotter" sister named Blonda, who looks the same except that she has blonde hair, is self-centered and lacks Wanda's affectionate nature. Blonda stars in the popular Fairy World soap opera All My Biceps. In one episode, Wanda said to Blonda "Mom always liked you best". That statement was the only reference to their mother who never appeared in the series. It is also borrowed from the classic Smothers Brothers routine in which Tommy Smothers would accuse his brother Dickie of being their mother's favorite. It was revealed in the TV movie Fairy Idol, that Blonda dyes her hair and she is actually a brunette, although it would make more sense that her hair was naturally pink since Wanda and Blonda are supposedly identical. She is also supposedly the only fairy in Fairywood (the Fairyworld Hollywood) never to win a Zappy. She and Wanda hate each other but made up until Wanda won the Zappy Blonda thought she was going to afterwhich the two returned to hating each other.
[edit] Other godchildren
Cosmo and Wanda have also been fairy godparents to many other notable figures before (sometimes, oddly, during) Timmy.
- Mary Ann: A really evil girl, appeared in the episode "Hassle in the Castle". In the episode she was freed from her picture on the wall and stole Cosmo's wand. She then stole Wanda's Wand and turned Cosmo and Timmy into ducks. It was also revealed that she was the one who sprung the world into World War I by having Archduke Franz Ferdinand killed. What's odd about this is that in Da Rule book, it states that godchildren can't wish anyone dead. Mary Ann's wish is probably what created this rule.
- Tina Turner: Among their other former godchildren was pop singer Tina Turner, as pointed out in the episode "Hassle in the Castle".
- Billy Gates: Another one of their godchildren was Microsoft owner and billionaire Bill Gates, as seen in the episode, "Father Time." Supposedly Cosmo & Wanda helped little Billy with his "crazy" ideas including something called the "Internet". (In the episode Father Time, modern Cosmo tells Bill Gates to name it the Timmy Computer Network, turning Timmy's name into 'Internet' for the episode)
- Denzel Crocker: before one of Timmy's accidents (actually caused by Cosmo's stupidity) revealed that Crocker had fairy godparents.
- Vicky: In "The Switch Glitch," Cosmo and Wanda were actually given to Vicky by mistake after she was turned into a five-year-old by Timmy.
- Tootie: In The Birthday Wish, Timmy gives Cosmo and Wanda to Tootie for the rest of the day of her birthday.
- Chester McBadbat: When Timmy wished he was never born, Cosmo and Wanda would have been given Chester instead of Timmy. Also, in the TV movie "Fairy Idol", they would have been given to Chester if Norm the Genie hadn't interfered.
- Tommy and/or Tammy Turner: Apparently, Timmy's future child (or maybe both as it's unclear whether fairies can be assigned to a child who has siblings, as a few fans state that if this were possible, the children may share the godparents) will obtain Cosmo and Wanda, as revealed in Channel Chasers. It is possible Cosmo is Tommy's godparent and Wanda is Tammy's or vice versa.
- Carl Wheezer, Sheen Estevez, and Libby Folfax: In The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour 2: When Nerds Collide, Timmy wished that Wanda and Cosmo would grant any wish Carl, Sheen, or Libby asked for.
- The Nega-Chin: The evil version of the Crimson Chin was given the power to make any wish he wanted after being mistaken by the Crimson Chin. Timmy never unwished those powers, so it is unclear whether or not he will return and take control of Cosmo and Wanda again.
- Sammy: Sammy, along with Mary Ann and Pierre, was a part of Cosmo and Wanda's group of bad godchildren. He claims that he's the one who made it so tornadoes always hit trailers. The wish that Sammy have done is not accurately evil, only egoist.
- Pierre: Pierre was one of the bad godchildren. He wished that all French people be rude to Americans.
Many others can be seen in the "Hassle in the Castle" episode, hanging in either the 'Hall of Infamy' (bad godchildren) or in the hall for good children. (To which Timmy belongs to is unclear: despite him having a whole room for his pictures (The Hall of Timmy, in which every picture is a good time spent with him, Cosmo and Wanda) it is located within the Hall of Infamy).
[edit] Cosmo's pets
Cosmo has taken in the following pets:
- Phillip the (Girl) Nickel; seen in "Spaced Out" and later in "Hassle in the Castle."
- Steve the Hog; seen in "Timvisible."
- Snowball the Hydra (appeared as a three-headed winged dragon); seen in "This Is Your Wish."
- Carl the Ant (deceased); seen in "Sleep Over and Over."He died when Cosmo let a magnifying glass fall and smash the poor ant.
- Cindy the Bee (deceased); seen in "Sleep Over and Over."A bird ate her when Cosmo was pursuing the bee.
- Jimmy the Cat (6/9 lives remaining); seen in "Sleep Over and Over."
- Rock; seen in "Most Wanted Wish."
- * Mr. Nay Nay
Of those, Cosmo discarded Rock, keeps Phillip around to sleep with, can make Snowball appear with his wand, and accidentally killed Carl, Cindy, and Jimmy (3 times actually). No one knows what happened to Steve. Either intentionally or coincidentally, Carl, Jimmy and Cindy (all of whom appeared in "Sleep Over and Over") share names with characters from The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, a Nickelodeon show that has crossed over with The Fairly OddParents three times.
[edit] Trivia
- In the Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide episode "Guide to Day Dreaming," Ned Bigby has Cosmo and Wanda as fairy godparents in a daydream. They told him he could wish for, as examples, "a snowcone," "poofing into The Evil Dr. Sweeny's Office," or "a snowcone." Daran Norris, who voices Cosmo and Mr.Turner plays Gordy who is the janitor on the series.
- Cosmo was originally envisioned as a slob, and Wanda's original name was Venus.
- Cosmo and Wanda have been mascots for Nickelodeon for a while and have appeared in Got Milk? commercials.
- Wanda's appearance has changed slightly over the series. In the first season she was drawn with light pink skin, though eventually her skin tone changed to match Cosmo's, which is a more human-like flesh tone.
- In the episode "Sleep Over and Over", Cosmo's "pets" have the same names of some characters of another Nickelodeon show, Jimmy Neutron. It is unknown if it is coincidental or intentional.
- Cosmo and Wanda also appeared in Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast, along with some characters from Rugrats and SpongeBob SquarePants.
- In all three of the The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour episodes, the characters from Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius always think that Cosmo and Wanda are computer-generated programs. In the first crossover, Jimmy thinks that Fairy World was a computer reality and doesn't believe that Cosmo and Wanda are magical creatures (because he only believes in science). If Jimmy were to discover the truth, it is unknown if Timmy would lose Cosmo and Wanda, since Jimmy and his friends are from another reality.
- Cosmo and Wanda's transformation into fish is a cultural reference to the Academy award-winning film, A Fish Called Wanda
- Cosmo's middle name Is Julius, which is found in the March 2007 issue of Nickelodeon Magazine
- Cosmo believes in ghosts, goblins, ghouls, tigers, aliens, corn flakes, and butter, but not giraffes because they're "too weird".
- In one episode, Cosmo finds a nickel and names it Philip. The bad news its a girl nickel. It is the first episode with Mark Chang the alien from Yugopotamia.
- Ace Hound, Wanda's superdog alias is possibly a reference to Ace the Bat-Hound, Batman's faithful dog.
- Wanda was shown to have a bone in the pink swirl in her hair as when she was electrocuted.
