In the 80s, the band Corrosion of Conformity was one of the first which started mixing Heavy Metal and Hardcore, then in the 1990s they started chilling out and went Southern. In the 2000s, having switched just about every position in the band including the vocalist, they used everything they've learned and went political, although Damned for All Time with lyrics like "One Nation Under God / just like protectory / are they really hearing the third world cries" in 1988 shows they were always doing it.
