Corrieyairack Pass

The Corrieyairack Pass is an 770m (2526 ft) high pass in the Scottish Highlands at grid reference NN417986.
This pass would be relatively obscure were it not for General Wade's military road built over it in 1731, between Fort Augustus in the Great Glen to the north and Melgarve in Strath Spey in the south. This path almost became the site of a major battle in the Jacobite Rising.
If it had been kept open as a road it would be the highest road in the UK. Instead it is used primarily by hikers and mountain bikers, and marked as "Wade's road to Laggan" from the Fort Augustus side.
The military road is designated a Scheduled Ancient Monument [1].
