Corral Bay Forts
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Corral Bay Forts was a series of fortification in Corral Bay, made to protect the city of Valdivia, Chile. During the time of the Spanish colony, it was the biggest system of fortification in the Americas. The three biggest forts of this system were the San Sebastián de la Cruz fort in Corral, Niebla and Isla Mancera. Lord Thomas Cochrane as admiral of the Chilean navy captured the forts in 1820.
The Corral Bay Forts was part of the bigger Valdivian fort system, a well elaborate plan to avoid attacks from pirates, enemy nations and natives.
