Corps of Mines (France)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Corps of Mines (in French Corps des Mines) is the foremost of the great technical corps of the French state. It is formed of the State Engineers of the Mines.

The Corps is attached to the French ministry in charge of industry.

People entering the Corps are educated at the École nationale supérieure des Mines de Paris, with a special curriculum distinct from that of ordinary Mines engineers. Most of them are from École Polytechnique; these are known as X-Mines; the rest come from École Normale Supérieure or the regular curriculum of the École des Mines.

Many executive positions in France's industries are held by X-Mines engineers.
