Corozal District

Corozal District is the northernmost district of the nation of Belize. Population (2000): 33,335. District capital: Corozal Town.

Also in Corozal District are the towns and villages of Benque Viejo, Calcutta, Campa Pita, Chacan Chac Mol, Chan Chen, Chunch, Chunox, Cocos, Consejo, Copper Bank, Corozalito, Cowpen, Estero, Laguna, Libertad, Little Belize, Louisville, Paraiso, Patchacan, Progresso, Puebla Nueva, Ranchito, Remate, San Joaquin, Saltillo, Sarteneja, Shipstern, Tacistal, Xaibe and Xcanluum.

While the island of Ambergris Caye may geographically be closest to Corozal District, it is actually a part of Belize District.

The Pre-Columbian Maya ruins are found in Corozal at Santa Rita near Corazal Town, at Louisville, and at Cerros.
