Coronado High School (Henderson)

Coronado High School is a public secondary school located at 1001 Coronado Center Drive in Henderson, NV, part of Clark County School District. It admits students in grades 9-12. The school's mascot is the Cougar, and the school colors are red, white and blue. It is a public school that contains roughly 2,800 students, and has 114 certified professional staff members. The current administrators are:

  • Assistant Principals: Paul Fagone (Activities/Discipline), Sam Johnson (Athletics/Facilities), and Bob Mars (Curriculum)

The school was named after a Francisco Vázquez de Coronado, a Spanish conquistador, who between 1540 and 1542 visited New Mexico and other parts of the southwest of what is now the United States. It was opened during the 2001-2002 school year, with the first official graduating class in 2003-2004.

There are a variety of over 50 activities a student can participate in while attending. Clubs range from Spanish Club to French and German Club, to Teenage Republican and Democrats club and even a Forensics and AP club.

Sports range from golf to football, with a fairly good record for the teams.

[edit] Cross Country

The 2006 cross country team was coached by Mark Tondryk. The men's cross country team placed fourth in state, lead by Matt Dalrymple, while the women's placed eighth.

The mens team won the sunrise region during the 05-06' season. and finished 3rd at state championships. The womens team won the sunrise region during the 05-06' season and finished 1st at state championships.

[edit] Cougar Pride Marching Band

Coronado's band is directed by Danielle McCracken and Cara Froelich. The drum majors for the 2006 marching seasons are Patricia Reyes, Maurice Robbins, Brendt Ernst. The band made finals at the Bands of America performance at Northern Arizona University, only the fourth school to do so in the history of Clark County School District. The also performed in finals at the Las Vegas Invitational, located at Las Vegas High School. The band consists of 174 members, including a six-member drum line.

Big Beat Battalion is a rap group widely recognized by students of Coronado. Smooth J, a member of group, teaches social studies at the school. Official Website

Other notable local bands have members at the school, such as Shredmill, the Tramlines, Syndicate, and Treading Water.

  • Coronado High School has been named as high achieving according to the state guidelines for two out of past three years.
  • About 40 percent go to four year colleges and 30 percent enter two year community colleges after graduating senior year.
