Corona County, California

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Corona County was the site of an initiative in 2002 by the City of Corona, California to secede from Riverside County because the city government and some residents were dissatisfied with how services were handled in nearby areas. The effort was also considered by areas in other cities in the western part of the county including Murrieta. Whether nearby cities such as Norco, California would have been included in the new county are unknown. The area is bordered by San Bernardino County to the northwest and by Orange County to the west.

The area formerly agricultural has been largely urbanized in recent years, and has become somewhat of a bedroom community, not only to nearby sections of Orange County, but also to cities in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County to the northwest, mainly due to the completion of SR 71, a major transportation link connecting the city to Pomona, California.
