Cornwallis, Nova Scotia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cornwallis is the name of a former Canadian rural community in Annapolis County, Nova Scotia that existed after the 1946 closure of HMCS Cornwallis, a Royal Canadian Navy base.
The base had been established in 1942 on property at the western edge of the community of Clementsport. Following the war, the post office gave this location the name "Cornwallis", after the military base. HMCS Cornwallis was reactivated in 1949 and it was renamed CFB Cornwallis in 1968.
The military base was closed in 1994 and converted to civlian use. At that time, the local development authority established Cornwallis Park as the civilian name for the property; this name was adopted as the community name in 2000.
