Cornwall-on-Hudson Elementary School is located in the downtown section of the Orange County community, along NY 218. It is one of three elementary schools in the Cornwall Central School District, serving mainly the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson itself.
The building was built in the early 1920s to serve as the community's high school, and "Cornwall-on-Hudson High School" is still visible on the front atop a former facade. Due to its age, it is non-compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and on May 15, 2007 the district will put a $4.7 million bond issue before voters that it hopes will finance the construction of, among other things, two elevators in the building.[1]
