Cork School of Music

Cork School of Music is located in the centre of the city of Cork, Ireland and is a school of Cork Institute of Technology. The college was founded in 1878 and became a school of Cork Institute of Technology in 1993.
The school previously occupied a dedicated building in Union Quay, it is currently divided between Moore's Hotel and Connolly Hall. . Plans for a new building were announced in October 1999, but funding from government was slow in coming. The new building is presently under construction and due to open in Summer 2007.
The new Cork School of Music is designed by Murray O'Laoire architects of Dublin, with acoustic design by Applied Acoustic Design. Sisk are the contractors. It incorporates two performance spaces and a recording studio, as well as a number of acoustically isolated practice rooms. The School will be equipped with state of the art technology and a number of Steinway pianos.
The main programme is the Bachelor of Music degree programme. Subjects taught include performance, composition, ensemble work, keyboard skills, musicianship, music history, music technology, Irish traditional music studies and more. The school has a very large staff, many of whom teach part-time in their area of musical expertise in addition to working as full-time musicians.
