Cork College of Commerce
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cork College of Commerce is a college that was established by the business and education communities on the banks of the River Lee in Cork, Ireland in 1908. The College is today the largest Post-Leaving Certificate (PLC) college in Ireland.
Since 1991, when the last of its secondary school students finished their Leaving Certificate examinations, the College has focused on its role as a dedicated college of further education. Running both fulltime day courses, and a night school, the College offers hundreds of courses across computing, business studies, office administration, applied languages, health studies, beauty therapy, complementary therapy, childcare and Montessori, fashion, travel and tourism, adult Leaving Certificate, professional courses, leisure courses, repeat for honours, and general interest courses.
A flagship for the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC), the College also continues its relationship with the business community in partnerships with professional bodies and examining authorities, including:
- Marketing Institute of Ireland (MII);
- Irish Exporters Association;
- Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Ireland;
- Institute of Accounting Technicians in Ireland;
- London Chamber of Commerce;
- Institute of Commercial Management (ICM);
- Institute of Bankers in Ireland;
- Security Institute of Ireland;
- Institute of Professional Auctioneers & Valuers (IPAV);
- Insurance Institute of Ireland;
- City and Guilds of London;
- Joint Examining Board (JEB);
- Microsoft Office Specialist Certification (MOS), Oxford, Cambridge, and RSA;
- European Computer Driving Licence Foundation Certification (ECDL);
- British Confederation of Beauty Therapy;
- Council for Awards in Children’s Care and Education (CACHE);
As well as equipping students with immediately useful and recognised skills, the College has instituted a wide array of further education links, steering students onto degree level and professional qualifications in Ireland, and around the British Isles. Indeed, while the State non-fee paying schools, such as the Cork College of Commerce, have continued to dominate the third-level feeder schools league tables, ninety per cent of repeat Leaving Certificate students from the Cork College of Commerce have continued on to third level.
