Wikipedia talk:Copyright issues
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I am interested in integrating wikipedia in it's entirety with an existing site. Who would I direct my request to?
- I'm not an expert, so you may want to take my advice with a grain of salt (at least), but I don't think there is anybody you would have to ask. Wikipedia's content is free under the terms of the GNU FDL; read the license for details on what you can and can't do. Another question remains, though - why would you want to copy Wikipedia in its entirety? The database dumps for the english version alone are more than 6 gigabytes (uncompressed) already, and besides, there's so many changes and updates to Wikipedia each day that your version would quickly get outdated unless you continuously resync it. -- Schnee 21:46, 7 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Current révision only is 165 MB this is not that much and easy to resync every week. I think it's a good thing if we have some statics mirrors of wikipedia it will reduce the load on the source wikipedia. Ericd 08:01, 10 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- Discussion moved from wikipedia:village pump and Talk:Copyright, and should really be refactored mercilessly into Wikipedia:Copyrights
Yes, great. So I just worked on three sections of this ready to put the combined text into the Copyrights page, only then to discover that the Copyrights page isn't editable. So what is the point in this intro. text?? --Douglas 23:41, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)
