Talk:Copasetic

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The spelling "copesthetic" is also common, and several others appear from time to time. Though this article might move to wictionary, this word may also merit a wikipedia article because it has an interesting, and somewhat uncertain, history. Though in common usage, the word may have been entirely made up by the Jazz musician community -- black tap dancer Bill Robinson (Mr. Bojangles) is said to have claimed credit for its creation but that claim is disputed. Other explanations abound -- see the below links. The most recent use in my recollection in a high-profile work is in the rap group RUN-D.M.C.'s "Perfection" though it seems to have had much usage since then as a title for songs or name for musical acts.

[edit] Origins of Copasetic?

I had heard that Copasetic was a brand of mouthwash in the 'teens and that "That's Copasetic!" was part of an ad campaign, meant to signify one was "ready, prepared for whatever may come, instilled with confidence because one's breath was fresh and not likely to offend proper company."

The Hebrew Kol Beseder means "all good" but Kol B'tzadik means "all just" as in justice. Kol B'tzadik sounds more like copasetic in my opinion.
