[edit] Canada

Was COPS ever filmed in Canada? I thought I remember seeing an episode based in Toronto. --209.226.183.16 02:55, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

Not to my knowledge.  Denelson83  02:06, 25 September 2005 (UTC)

They did have episodes in the United Kingdom. I do believe that their was an episode in Toronto once.

I did add constables to the list as they did have a couple of scences with one of the Tarrant County, TX preceints Constable's Office.

There's a version called "To Serve and Protect" that films in Seattle, Vancouver, and Edmonton, and maybe some other locations. Bobanny 02:58, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Accident

If I remember right, something that happened a number of years ago was that a group of police broke down the door of a residence searching for a criminal - a drug dealer, perhaps? I don't remember if it was an apartment or a standalone home. The police were accompanied by a film crew who were filming for Cops or some other show. Problem was that the residence they entered turned out to be the wrong one, being next door to the place they were supposed to enter. The people in the residence were none too happy about the mistake, and were even less pleased about being filmed. Perhaps it went to court. Would anyone have more details on this, I think it'd make a good addition to the criticism section of the article.
[***] I think I can shed some light on the incident you refer to. In about the 1998 time frame a camera crew from a major network was indeed riding with a Law Enforcement raid team, doing a one time story about drug enforcement to be aired on the evening news. There was a problem with the information, and the wrong house was raided causing a major law suit for the network who continued shooting against the wishes of the owners. It was not however a C.O.P.S. crew doing the shooting. The C.O.P.S. crews were typically assigned to the foot soldiers of police work, the beat officers. This did have some impact on production style of C.O.P.S. as for some period of time around this incident, it was a very precarious decision to enter homes following the officers. 68.227.34.121 03:32, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

You may be thinking of the Geraldo Rivera special American Vice: The Doping of a Nation (info from Everything2 node "Capone's Valut"[1]) in which Rivera helped lead a drug bust but the wrong people were implicated.

There was one episode of "COPS" in which a fire broke out and a police officer destroyed a woman's window to get her out of the house then it was realized that he was at the wrong house and the fire was next door. Could that be what you are thinking about?

[edit] Constables

Constables...is there a part of the United States where this term is used to describe police officers? If not, should this word be used? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.73.82.69 (talk • contribs).

Some depts in the U.S., such as in Texas, use the term constable.--TruckOttr 08:10, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
Look here for more on the title of "Constable" and how it's used in the US and elsewhere. -Maverick 20:58, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
Either way, when a constabulary duty's to be done, to be done, a copper's lot is not an 'appy one. Wahkeenah 02:23, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Theme Song

Does anyone know what theme song Cops used before Bed Boys?

[edit] Release / Consent?

Does anybody know about forms for release or consent forms suspects sign to appear in episodes? They must sign something, as their likeness is being used in a 'for profit' format, so I imagine criminals agree to be shown on TV, and likely are paid for the appearance.

Seems pretty obvious to me there must be a release form, considering that some episodes have suspects with blurred faces, plus, if I were being arrested, I'd love to have an extra bill to post bail with.

Anyways, wondering if somebody knows more about this, it would be nice to include this in the article. TotalTommyTerror 20:21, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Article assessment

I've rated this article as start class. It contains some of the information you would expect but is missing some sections (see Wikipedia:WikiProject Television/Television programs). I've rated the importance as mid because of the high number of other shows influenced by this one. To improve the article start adding some more sources.--Opark 77 23:04, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
